Stalker 2

Agree with last couple of posts. Disappointing as I enjoyed Stalker 1 so much and played a lot of mods for it too. I still haven't purchased Stalker 2, just from what I've seen I thought I'd be disappointed. Hoping it improves over the years but not sure if that's wishful thinking.
What exactly you find disappointing about Stalker 2?

Agree other than Metro being more linear. Stalker story is hard to follow, i find i go to the Wiki sometimes just to recap.

I've played it over a couple of separate attempts and gave up on the story. No idea what's going on. Second attempt had petered out as I'm bored of running across the map fighting the same group of 5 monolith every few hundred meters.

I also have no idea what's going on in Stalker 2's story. I suspect that even if I did understand what's going on I'd find it a bit dull. Not the best part of the game imo.

Stalker 2 is a very good game especially if you like the old series but it just needs a lot more work / polish. just get something else for now if looking for a new game to play and come back year end to see if it is up to scratch by then and maybe a lower price or more info on the add on`s or new missions.

Most likely for myself, future playthroughs of the game will allow the story to sink in. I can be like that with films as well.
Sometimes things are more enjoyable the second time around.
Some of my favourite films took a few watches to hit with me. Those are the best kind imo.

Ugh, I've started having issues with occassional crashes in this game, rather annoying as there can be quite a while between automatic saves. Not a whole system crash but the game will freeze, requiring me to kill the process and restart it. Not sure if it's to do with the nvidia driver issues, may try rolling back and see if that sorts it.

Since devs are taking their sweet time with hardware ray tracing, this may just do the job!

- Significantly improved Lumen GI, Reflections and Ambient Occlusion, making it much closer to Hardware Lumen.

- Significantly increased Lumen draw distance for indirect lighting to reduce lighting pop-ins.

- Significantly improved overall quality of the shadows and ambient occlusion in vegetation.

- Added a proper shadowing and ambient occlusion on players hands and weapons.

- Significantly increased LOD distance for vegetation and geometry (very CPU heavy on Epic settings, expect occasional drops below 60fps even on a 9800X3D CPU in more demanding areas like Rostok, Chornobyl-2 or Pripyat)

- Added support for DLSS Ray Reconstruction (optional, wasn't used is this video, has a performance cost of 15-20%)- Fixed vegetation shimmering with DLSS 4 when internal resolution is 1080p and below.- Enabled Frame Generation during cutscenes.

Yeah, I'm very close to the end (Dangerous Liaisons) and glad it's not just me that finds that - personally, the story hasn't engaged me at all and I'm not bothering to even try and understand what's going on at this point. The two things this game has going for it is how good it visually and how challenging it is. Too many other flaws for me to recommend it to anyone, it's frustrating as with more polish it would be so much better. It becomes incredibly samey, there's literally a handful of different mutants so you're just fighting the same enemies over and over again. I wouldn't mind all the walking in between if it mixed it up but no, annoying rats or dogs, a few different mutants and that's all you get.

I've just beaten Faust and I'm barely half way through the main missions? Wtf. This game just doesn't know when to end.

I hadn’t looked but I’m not much further on than you @ne0 nearly 90 hours done but still enjoying it (only play in short chunks of less than an hour usually).

The story is lost on me so I'm just going to play the rest of the game as a hunter /survival type thing and get immersed that way. Gonna try the new graphics mod also.

I've been eager to dive back into this with the new GPU but it appears that whatever patches have come along have broken some stuff so I pretty much insta-die upon load in. I was down in the Duga and had gone underground so not sure how far from the official end I am . Might just wait for a whole bunch more fixes or a gamma style overhaul and dive back in with a fresh play through

We allowed this to happen once again :/
Judging by the high(er) quality reflections, the shadows/AO that the grass/vegetation actually has and the overall quality of the light and environment, it would imply more of an offline rendered scene or some of the usual "in engine" BS that never gets into the final game - although some hardware would be capable to run it. I'd say that on the visual side, as gamers, we keep on falling into that trap.
The worse part was with their view about AI and such that felt more like "things we'd love to have, but we were forced to launch sooner than you'd like to ideally". It feels too much like an early access game from a gameplay and story pov. I'd be fine with them taking that path, however, it would be nice for us to be in the knowledge as well.

I'm playing with the following mods:

1) Weapon Reposition Project (basically it sets the weapon to the right and lower, giving you more situation awareness than the usual "big gun in your face" cliché).
2) Ultimate Quality Config (Fix Lumen Lighting) - Ultimate. Uses the Ray Reconstruction as well.
3) Stalkour 2.0 - Increased Climb Height - Ledge Grabbing Updated / v1.2.1 - Sabre's Stalkour 2.0 -v1.2.1

It's nice Stalker experience for me as it is for others with a different set of mods or settings. I'll play it again later for sure, but if you put it against the original video that's gets compared, it will need more than RT, it will actually need higher quality assets that are currently missing.

Big perf hit

Yup but worth it and not really that much of an issue on nvidia gpus unless you refuse to use dlss and frame gen.

Well with the devs roadmap announced there, seems this will have to make do, doesn't look like HW RT will be anytime soon now.
