ok i just installed stalker, running well at about 50-60fps but anyway...

i'm still not sure how to work everything, i don't understand the artifacts and all, and also what is with it when you're running and there's a load of beeping and if you don't move quick you lose a good bit of health? sorry i know i should have read the manual a bit more but i didn't see much on this.

also is it just me or is it really hard to hit enemys/the take a lot of hits, maybe that's just me from playing css so much.

any advise would be great. please no spoilers lol.

EDIT: oh yea i'm playing on xp, i've tried on vista but it crashes when i go to save and xfire askes me to sent a report or something  i had a look on google but found no answer :(

they changes your stats up and down but becareful as some add radiation aswell as add stats you put them at top right slots i think there is 4 or 5 slots(drag and drop).

when you're running and there's a load of beeping and if you don't move quick you lose a good bit of health?
I think it ment to be a gigercounter (spelling) as it get higher and faster closer you are to a radactive spot you need to stop and look around and move away and the beeping will slow down or you lose health or die if you walk/run over it,they look like a hase.

also is it just me or is it really hard to hit enemys/the take a lot of hits
i found it hard until 1 got the shotgun and it gets easier then, i did some missions out of turn and found some hard at beginning with the pistol.

One thing, what the hell is with some of the missions. For example it says kill the salesman. yet when I click on the mission several times it doesn't direct me to anywhere?

The beeps that start to get faster and faster mean you're getting close to anomalies which harm you if you walk into them - they'll look like a haze, as has been said :)

As for radiation, thats the geiger counter and they'll sound like crackling which gets more and more loud/dense as the radiation level increases.

Try the faiakes mod - makes the game easier to get into with more stuff available from traders from the beginning. The mod also includes a intro guide as to the first missions to take on etc.. It also beefs up the basic pistol which makes it fairly useful as a starter weapon.

The beeping shows you are near to an anomaly and may take damage if it goes off - also watch for the radiation sign on the right of the screen. Once that appears you are taking radiation damage and will need to drink vodka or use a anti-rad syringe to bring your level down.

Some artifacts seem to irradiate you too. I wondered why my health was dropping when I had a couple on me.

I'm stuck at the bit where you have to defend some scrapyard type thing against an invasion. I always fail. No fair.

Jono, hide behind the buses and lob grenades in the bad guys general direction. i can usually take them out before they get in the compound, and some fo them move between the buses, so you can get the drop on em :D

hide behind the buses / vans / chopper wrecks and pop out to shoot them in the face :D

Try and get hold of an ak-47 or other smg and fire in bursts. Also save up for better armour (available from traders) I died loads until I was better protected :D

Good point about the armour - FYI there is a merc suit in the roof of one of the houses in the compound you start in...head away from the trader through the compound - it's in the roof of the last house on the left. Get up on the roof of the next door building by climbing the ladder behind Wolf then jump from that roof to the next building. Armour is in the loft at the far end - break the box with the knife and grab it. This will really help you survive the first part of the game.

Install the 1.00003 patch before you go one, savegames from v1.0 do not work after patching.

In the v1.0 release the balance of the game was a bit off as the enemies could shoot thru metal and walls and the accuracy of the guns you carry is only effective to 3 meters :o

After patching it is much better, go for headshots only if you do not have Armour piercing bullets.

There is also a VERY LONG stalker thread in this forum with a lot of info.

STALKER does tend to chuck you in at the deep end!
here's a link thats very helpful.

Zone Survival

As to your mission directions, are you clicking on the cross hair icon? Once the mission crosshair icon is green then the map indicates your mission objective. Of course you still have to go into the diary to read the full mission statement.
I don't remember if the direction arrows work for side missions? You only have to zoom the map around to see where to go though.

if you make to the bar everything will be different you have better guns enemy go down faster
where is that at?

also where are traders at? i want to buy guns and food and stuff.

atm i have the bandit's armour, is it any good?

The only trader avaliable to you at the moment is at the place you started at :D

You go to the bar after about 5-6 sections of the main mission and you can buy decent weapons, but not armour.

It gets scary form then on

Also when you get there fight in the arena, its easy and you can make 5k in about 10 mins MAX!!
