It's a completely stand alone (don't need the original game) total conversion, that improves the graphics and mechanics. It joins map areas from multiple games. There is a story mode or you can play it sandbox, just setting yourself up as a member of one of the factions and go roaming the "zone" to see how far you can go and survive.
If you have never played any stalker before it throws you in at the deep end. I would very much advise reading an anomaly guide. You can find ones on Reddit.
