Its just about getting away from typical FPS mentality. You can't do the old school method of staying out in the open and run n gun and expect to survive longer than a goldfish would in your place. You can't do the new school method of hiding behind cover and relying on regenerating health to get you through. Head to head combat tends to go in favour of the enemies until you get good armour/weapons. You can lose enemies and sneak around behind them or ambush them as they attack or snipe from long range without them figuring out where you are.
