At the start you're told to stock up on antirad and vodka, ain't got as far as you yet but that should work otherwise the game is lying!

This might seem a simple solution, but just try not wandering blindly into radioactive areas until you've found a little more protection.

There are various hazard-suits you can buy which will block some of the radiation. The game uses this to restrict certain parts of the maps until you've earned the more protective suits. Anti-rad and Vodka can help too.

Often parts of the map are less radioactive than others so you can sometimes find a path through that's less dangerous.

Been a while since i played but if i remember right, you can get artifacts that reduce your radiation over time, but the side effects make them bad for general use. So basicaly use decent artifacts for combat and movement, and when your at a safe location, use anti-radiation artifacts and wait untill you are fine.

If you can't enter an area due to a lack of rad protection then just roam somewhere else, being an rpg there is always something else to ponder on. Happy gaming.
