Mostly negative reviews, but GG for it being free for owners of the originals (cough... Bethesda... cough)... installing SoC now! (and is more or less maxing out my 500mbps connection at 63MB/s :) )

So are these remastered games as bad as the mixed Steam reviews suggest, or is this another case of review bombing due to politics as some of the reviews point to? If it is the latter its a shame as the Steam reviews were the one thing you could usually count on to give a fairly unbiased opinion on a game.

I'm hoping they are playable as I would have loved to play through them all again with achievements etc :(

Reading through them the only worthwhile review is one that says judge for yourself. If you own the original you own this one, it'll cost you nothing but time to find out :p.

Had a quick blast for 30 minutes or so on Call of Pripyat, definitely a few oddities showing up already. Out of the box the image looked very soft with loads of flicker/shimmer on the foliage, it almost looked like there was heavy film grain applied at all times.

Enabling FSR - Native and putting the sharpness filter all the way to max fixed the flicker (still there though on some objects if you looked close enough) and made the image a bit more crisp, there's still something about it that just looks off to me though, can't quite put my finger on it, maybe the slightly new lighting/screen space global illumination muddying things in certain conditions?

The skyboxes are terrible already, some parts look good, other things are really low res that have been scaled up pretty poorly. There's mixes of nice high res clouds with low res clouds all overlapping, one of the daytime ones had a massive bright spot as if the sun was behind some clouds, but then the actual sun was behind me, it all looked really odd. Switched over to magic hour and the old god rays still do the job really well, it did look quite nice going through the factory, then night time hit and I had another absolutely terrible skybox, super low resolution clouds and stars with all the blacks completely out of whack, it looked like if you swing the gamma/contrast bars all the way to one side.

Also, the terrain fades and turns translucent at distance ahead of the fog layer, so you can see the sky through the fading terrain/hills.

Playing Enhanced SoC next to vanilla and it looks significantly worse apart from the sky box. Very washed out and blurry. Lighting also feels worse and tessellation lower. There are some console specific options in the menu so maybe that has something to do with it. Master difficulty mobs seem less bullet spongy. No reason to play this over a modded vanilla really.

I had a go and had similar experience. The graphics looked blurry and it got even worse when you either fall from height or take a hit with the blur effect doubling.

The radiation visual indication is weird as well. Apart from the sky it's very difficult to see what has been enhanced.

Are these editions any better than using the Stalker Complete mods? That's what I always used in the past and it's been great tbh.

Having played a bit next to the vanilla game it's not even better than that tbh at least from a visual and immersion perspective. Only tried SoC though.

Well thought how bad could it possibly be? I have an hour to kill tried call of prypiat enhanced. OMG it should be called call of prypiat massive downgrade and Vasline smeared on your screen eddition.
How did something this bad get released? Not even worth it for FREE. It looks and plays terrible, "The looks like crap, plays like crap edition".
