Hi guys

I bought this game about 8-9 months ago. Installed it and played it for about 2-3 hours. Then installed the complete mod 2009 and graphics became awesome.

However since then I haven't played it and now only getting back into it.

I want to ask if it is worth playing it?

Also should I bother with NPC side missions?

How would you guys approach this game? It seems massive :)

Definitely worth playing!

The side missions add a lot to the game, and offer some nice rewards. Also, a good chance to explore :)

The Complete Mod makes it amazing, and doesn't change the story at all.

I remember when I used to play it. Got really frustrated as the bartering system was basically useless. Just sold loads of stuff and there was never any real scope.

Then it just became ridiculously easy. Has the mod solved lots of it's issues?

And the bugs, oh the bugs.

I currently have a 4870, with a 6870ish GPU on the horizon.

How does this game play at 1920x1200 with a 4870?

I don't like playing games at anything less than max :p

I used to play it maxed with a 4870 at that res. I did find the Complete Mod made it struggle at some points, however this was purely because I was using a 512MB 4870, and the texture memory was going past that 512MB, making it really stuttery at some points as it transfered textures around.
If you've got a 1GB 4870, you should be good to go at that res however!

great game, i loved it soooo much.

I used to try and break out of the maps to skip areas and often succeeded :) a real free roaming game! loved it.

If playing it modded I wouldn't have though you'd be able to max the game out, not with a good frame rate and AA. However, play it vanilla but patched to 1.0005 and I think you'll be fine. Only one way to find out. :)

Have Completed this game worth playing lots of places to expore have also completed Clear Sky an Call of Pripyat but the story in Shadow of Chernobyl is the best all worth playing though.

I've completed Clear Sky and CoP but never finished SoC. I stopped playing while still in Pripyat and never started again.

I am going towards Garbage area (:p) now and it is totally dark now as game time is 8.40pm!!

It's very scary in the fields on your own at night time. Very chilly

Did the gametime change in the vanilla game?

Yeah, but the complete mods make the whole thing so much better. Make sure you play Clear Sky (bad reviews but I enjoyed it) and Call of Pripyat once you're done.

Driving some of the abandon vehicles in stalker would have been cool wish they added it I spent a lot of time walking from zone to zone.

I personally thought Stalker Call of Pripyat was the better game. They managed to keep all the positive points, but without the endless running from mission completion back to the source.

I can't remember if it was AtmosFear, Complete or Oblivion Lost but when there is absolutely no light at all the whole game is seriously scary. Walking around with a flashlight jumping at rustling noises, it only gets a bit better once you get armour with nightvision.
