Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl

I think the Stalker games, certainly shadow and call of Pripyat are the only games I can spend several hours just looking about and exploring rather than actually playing the game/storyline. Especially in Shadow when you get out of the map boundaries and start exploring off map you find all the old parts of the villages and cities they were going to put in the game.

SoC was awesome. Best of the three imo. Didn't get into the 2nd much, but I thought the 3rd was too easy. Way too much ammo

I though half the thrill of the original was the survival aspect.

In the 3rd I was collecting ammo faster than I could use it, so just ran around gunning everything down

I think there is a mod to make the 3rd more 'survivery'

Hi Guys,

I am NOT aware of this 'Complete Mod' i havent played the game yet and have it on steam, is this mod a 3rd party or does it install directly from steam as an auto update??

I had problems with the installer version so used the zip version. Basically it adds a folder called 'gamedata' into your stalker install folder, and a config file change allows stalker to use the stuff in there. To uninstall, just delete the folder. There's a manual too and unlike most manuals, it's well written and worth reading. The complete mods make stalker be the way it should have been on release.

SoC I loved. I picked up Call of Pripyat for next to nothing in the last Steam sale but wound up playing for about 30 minutes and never going back. It just seemed to dump you in a field with no real instruction as to what the hell you were supposed to do. I should probably give it another shot but there are so many great games around at the moment I'm struggling to give this priority.

Your telling me SoC didn't just dump you somewhere and tell you to get on with it? Or Clear Sky for that matter too?

From what I remember, you are there to investigate the choppers, thats your main objective, otherwise you do what everyone else does. Go to the nearest town and talk to the barman (which it also tells you to do doesn't it?), alternatively theres a stalker heading straight towards you to talk to and get some directions.

When you are ready, give it a proper go. ;)

Ok well looking into what I need to buy.

There is:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Can you get all three of these in a box set or should I just find the cheapest of each?

Found the radioactive edition but it's more than the other three combined

How do you get out of map boundaries. Whenever I try to move further to the left or right, I am blocked by barbwires which seem to run along the map:(

I was using AK-74 during a shootout and halfway through it jammed.

Now when I try to shoot with it, it just makes 'clicks' noises.

How can I repair it?

(There was a green symbol on the screen but I didn't pay attention to it. Now it's gone)

That was the original intention I believe, though for various reasons that was scrapped before release. However, Stalker : Lost Alpha will remedy that when it arrives. :)

Lost Alpha is however a different game, not a patch/mod for STALKER. It's a brand new game :)

Reload. If it jams, you need to reload it. Also, it might be broken though. Items do have durability :)

So far the game is amazing.

However the hitreg seems to be poor.

I have taken several headshots of enemies and wild dogs. But it seems they require several hits even then before they fall.

It's not so much the hitreg is bad, but IIRC your character starts the game as not too great a shot, and also with inaccurate weapons.

You should find later in the game as your STALKER ranking (level) goes up, and your weapons get better, your accuracy is better. It was something else the game did you don't see too often, you aren't a soldier and your inexperience at the beginning of the game (well relative) means you can't fight like one either.

Was a nice change too me from the "average joe suddenly able to shoot just as well as any trained soldier" style scenario we usually see.
