Just picked up the two above quite randomly from game for £15.

With stalker I'm wondering what mods should I use for first play through? I'm thinking all the graphics mods, and maby somthing to improve the wepon accuracy & dmg along with carrying capacity.

Now I really like RTS games but weirdly I've never got into the multiplayer aspect (got raped repeatedly), I've heard Sup com is a pretty hefty/deep game and was wondering if there are any sites or any advice you can give to an online rts noob..

Ty.

Not sure about Stalker, but with SupCom you can download replays through GPNet :) I know there are sites out there with replays on, just cant remember what they are called :p They have been posted on here before though.

In SC I'd recommend building turrets, AA & shield generators as quickly as possible. Repels attacks, and stops damage to your units and buildins, you can then safetly build advanced tech, more energy/mass buildings and experimental combat bots. 20 or so spider bots will totally destroy the enemies base.

I find a few light tanks + mobile AA is better than turrets at the very start quicker to build and cost less.

But which is more effective (hitpoints) turrets or units? I would guess turrets/aa. So if you don't have shields, less damage to your buildings/units.

turrets cost more and take longer and can't move so at the start you'd need a few to defend a space where as less tanks could move around to where needed + you can do more damage with 10 guns than you can with 1. so with turrets you get fewer but better armored, nd tanks you get more fire power mobility but less health.

after the start once you've got some minor defenses and some income you build turrets and start advancing. But t1 aa turrets are dire.

i found turrets more useful than units in the overall picture early on, and never forget how essencial radar is, your dead without radar and i would recommend getting T2 point defences as quickly as humanly possible, so you can start engaging beyond visual range :)

You can get Stalker for £5.99 and Supcom for £5.99 in Morrisons at the moment, bargainriffic.

Yeah, was in there earlier today, also Company of Heroes for the same price

For stalker i recently played through it with no mods and really enjoyed it, little tricky at times, especially the begining when you dont have a rifle / scope but i think theres an accuracy mod out there if it becomes a pain

I wouldn't use any gameplay mods for your first play though, just graphics updates.

The weapons you get early in the game are not accurate at range, but once you find a scope for a rifle it becomes a lot easier to hit. And the weapons available get better the further you are in the game.
Its part of the fun of the game having poor weapons to begin with as its great when you get a better one. And the damage is fine unmodded, just make headshots and you'll be laughing.

Also wouldn't say to use a mod to increase carrying capacity as the weight restriction adds another dimension to the game. You really need to plan what to take when you set off from where your stash is, eg how many bullets, how many medpacks etc.

From the Stalker Skies thread.

For those of you that want to play through the original Stalker with some mods, try one of these -

Oblivion Lost - A (very good) attempt to get Stalker more like the original 'vision' of the game. It adds lots of cut out features like all the original monsters and mutants, driveable cars more weapons and loads more.

Priboi Story - A whole new storyline, just about to be updated to patch 1.1. Similer idea to Oblivion lost just not following the original Strelok storyline.

Its like playing the game for the first time all over again with either of these mods

Other smaller mods worth looking out for are

Float32 - improves perfromance and visuals by tweaking the shaders
Stalker Weather Overhauled - (not compatible with float32) as it says it makes the weather effects much better, it looks lovely. This mod includes a great mod called Sky4ce 1.78 which gives a great depth of field effect and proper motion blur (if you want it)
Particle Enhancement 2 - Improves the particle effects i.e. better bullet impact effects, better anomaly effects etc. This can be used in conjunction with a mod called Blood Particles which gives you gibs! its a subtle effect and really works well

Hope this helps someone :)

I should say about Stalker, most advice on the official forums people give is to patch to v1.0004 as this was the last patch with single player bug fixes. v1.0005 and v1.0006 had only multiplayer changes.

Supposedly v1.0004 is the most stable for playing the single player game and most mods are designed for this version of the game.
