STALKER - Visual upgrade advice

Well lets just it now looks a lot better that i dont have to play it with static lighting on my ATI 9800pro :D. I tried enabling global lighting but it really slowed it down, and thats at 1440*900. should it be able to run ok?

I installed oblivion lost, its adds some nice things. but im really becoming annoyed with how its seems to be missing some of the more set pieces of 'this group of nps against this group' that were in the original, so now its just me against them all.
 
If you want to try vanilla first then don't worry about the game looking bad, it absolutely doesn't. With everything cranked up it's a fine looking game. Also you get to see it 'as intended' and can then try mods later, on a second play through.
