STALKER - Which one to play?

I feel like re-installing STALKER and playing it with the complete mod. I've noticed there's one for all 3 of the games but I don't know which to play through again. I'm guessing most will say play SoC again but I quite liked the new elements brought in from the other 2 and the expanded territories. I'm kinda leaning to Call of Pripyat but what do you all recommend? Do the mods add/change much game-play wise to make it feel like a fresh experience?

There are many mods that are widely regarded as superior to the complete mods. As much as I like the complete mods for what they've done for the series, I'd recommend the following for Call of Pripyat (which is what I think is the best game once modded) :

There are many others, but those sit right at the top of most recommended lists, so you can't go far wrong.

Here's a few shots from Misery 1.1 - which isn't the version I was initially suggesting (2.1 beta is the one to go for), but you get the idea with the improvement in visual quality. There's pics from #152, #156 and #167 :

Didn't know there were so many, thanks. Think I'll try the Misery mod for CoP first and see what it's like then maybe try some of the others for the older games.

Do you know if there's a torrent for the Misery mod (2.2 version)? Tried looking but can't find one for the latest version. The HTTP download link seems to have expired and the it can't resume, really annoying. If not then I'll just have to have a go at it again.

Nice post. I'm doing the same! There's just something about the stalker series I love. The melancholy atmosphere just ***** on the soulless drivel that's coming out these days.

I played stalker soc on release but never competed it, played a tiny bit of clear sky because I just couldn't get it to run well enough at the time, and played all of, and loved CoP.

I'm playing soc now with the complete mod, then plan to play cs with the complete mod, then cop again with either the misery, or I am alone mod. I've tested the misery mod and the performance just sucks. Total stutter fest. Maybe it will work properly by the time I get to it...

The current latest version for Misery 2 is the 2.1 beta. The link should work fine (it does for me).

Here's a little mod that I might try incorporating on my next journey into the zone (assuming it's out yet) :

I never managed to get Stalker:CoP to work. I've had the game sitting in my Steam library for years now, but after a system reformat last week it's working. :)

This is my first time playing any Stalker game and so far it has been an enjoyable experience, but there are so many mods to chose from making it difficult to find out which is the latest or best.

Is this mod the one I need to install to the root directory to get the best graphics out of the game?

There isn't a 'right' or best option, Manju, but the one you have linked I would say imo is a very good choice. It's likely to be more stable than the 2.1 beta version of Misery 2. SGM 2.2 is certainly one of the most highly rated mods for Call of Pripyat. It comes with it's own installer iirc.

I'd definitely recommend SoC with the Autumn Aurora 2 mod, it's a top notch mod and turns SoC into a pretty damn (hard) amazing game.

I've been playing through Stalker Shadow Of Chernobyl (by far the best Stalker) with the Stalker Complete mod. Dat parallax occlusion makes the bricks look incredible on buildings.

It is actually quite a creepy/scary game in some places. Some great atmosphere.

What class do you recommend to play with? I'm stuck between Assault and Sniper. It says the Sniper has "better chance at extracting uninfested raw meat and scientific specimens from mutant corpses" but I don't know exactly what that means. Does he basically have better chances eating mutant meat for food without negative effects or something? Is the body parts harvesting for research worth doing?

I think it's saying that the sniper class is more likely to find 'cleaner' samples of food sources in certain instances, so yeah, I think you're right.

I went with the recon class, which I found surprisingly good. I've tried the assaulter class before, but he had too much of an appetite for my liking, though whether that's been altered since I don't know. The sniper was fine when I last tried it, but my favourite so far has been recon.

Didn't see the bit about their requirements. Seems Assaulter is a fatty and needs lots of food. Hmm, I dunno. Maybe I'll try him and see how it goes and if it's bad start with Sniper.
