Stalking - how do you prove it and stop it?

One of my daughters friends is being stalked. This is no normal friend because I've basically helped to bring her up from a child because she spent so much time here and she sometimes calls me Dad. She has now got a stalker and my first reaction is to go and break his legs but that will only satisfy me.
When do the Cops actually take this serious?
The one thing in her favour is that she has dozens of threatening text messages saved in her phone and all her non threatening replies.
She's lost enough sleep and now this needs action but she doesn't want to go to the Cop station unless the texts are proof.

Any suggestions except hitting him with my biggest keyboard?

My my, people here seem to like taking their law into their own hands, or at least they say they do :p

You can get an ASBO taken out on him I think, on the basis of her word alone once she has reported three statements of harassment to the police...

just shows you, merely a week ago I have 'ASB Training' and was talking about this in work. work sux...

go to the local cop shop and report it. You could also try the citizens advice beaureu, sure they would be able to help you out if you dont want to go to the cops just yet.

@dmpoole,

the texts should be enough. report to police. happened at my school and we had the cop's in talking to us etc.
do you know his name or anything? have the girl and him met (before he started getting weird?)

if they do nothing. pee on his rug.

My sister many years ago was stalked, one day she pointed the guy out to me and I confronted him, she didn't see him ever again.

Just got back in from a gig.

She's 19 and well upset. The going round his house and not flushing the toilet sounds good but I think I will add not washing my hands to the list - that'll show him.
I'll talk to her tomorrow.
