hi i am about to purchase a widescreen 19" monitor (after seling my 15 inch for 50 quid, lol)bu ehre is *** i m not sure

i ahve seen 1 or 2 19" wide screen with 1400 x 900 as their resolutiona nd after reading the reviews from those who actully bought it, it actully is 1400 x 900.

on the other hand i msot of the wide screen i look at is 1440 x 900 ....

so is there a standard to widescreen 19" monitors? and if so would my graphics card be able to play any games at that resolution?

Thanks in advance :D

The standard is 1440 x 900, are you sure they aren't getting confused with 1400 x 1050 on some 20" monitors or laptop screens or just getting mixed up or something? The amount of times I hear people getting mixed up with resolutions... tis so common (particularly with the less computer savvy who don't understand that computers don't always work in nice round numbers).

In answer to your second question yes you'll be fine, afaik your graphics card doesn't really see 1440 x 900 as any different to 1280 x 1024 or 1024 x 768. It is the game (or app) itself that determines whether it will support widescreen (cos even tho the resolution may be supported, the image may look stretched cos the FOV hasn't adjusted to take it into account).

not sure if this will help, but i have a 19" widescreen LCD TV/monitor which i use for my 360 via VGA.

it's optimum resolution is 1400x900 which is a 16:10 ratio resolution so I set my xbox to output at the nearest resolution and I let the monitor scale it up to 1400x900. if i remember correctly the resolution i use is 1280x768.
