Like everybody else on this planet I love gazing at the stars above. Unfortunatley where I live (London) I can't see much with just the naked eye. I want to get a telescope - but I know absolutely nothing of them. Can anyone give me some advise to start me off and possibly a couple recommendations for a good telescope? I'm willing to spent around £300-£400 for a decent quality one.

Due to where you live, theres probably massive light pollution which will go against you if you buy a telescope. My recommendation would be to try find out if your local observatory has open nights where you can attend and join in.

The local one to me is in dalby forest where there are next to no local light sources so on a clear night you can see a lot of celestial "stuff" using their equipment. (Friday night is the public open night)

Your missing out on the Perseid Storm tonight, over 60 meteors per hour are falling through the sky as earth passes through a belt of debris left behind a giant meteorite Tuut.
