Star Trek best series for a noobie?

Yes, pretty much all of it is on Netflix US. They have :

The original series (HD)
The Next Generation (SD)
Deep Space 9 (SD)
Voyager (SD)
Enterprise (HD)
And bunch of the older movies in HD

Started with season 3 TNG. Didnt think i would like the quality. Although i kind of getting used to it. The episode with Celso from scrubs.. :d

Will keep you posted how i get on.

Season 2 TNG has some great EPs you're missing out on if you're going straight to the third season, Q-Who (you'll definately want to watch this one before you watch the season three finale), Elementary Dear Data, The Measure of a Man to name a few. Season 1 wasn't great but had it moments, Skin of Evil being one.

There are good episodes there and frankly I think everyone is wrong about that. Sure there are episodes that can put you off, some very slow boring ones and it generally looks worse and is a bit more hammy. But that is part of any series, you need to watch from the start to grow into the characters. I think if you like the Star Trek... theme/lore/whatever then you would persevere through either series 1, or 3.

TNG isn't my favourite tv, if I rewatched it there are plenty of episodes i would skip. DS9 is so much better as a show because of the season story arcs and the entire series arcs that make even the more boring filler episodes part of something greater. Thats what started early in the 90's, Babylon 5, X-files, DS9, entire shows with seasonal and series based arc's, it makes everything so much more fleshed out and meaningful.

That's why you can really get away with starting TNG just about anywhere, mostly it's just single episodes, outside of getting to know the characters you won't not understand any part of the show if you start in the first or the last series. DS9 you have to watch from the start, Babylon 5 is still worth watching as well.

The old films are the best really.

Wrath of Khan is probably the greatest ST film... i loved MP also. (think of it as the Alien to WoK Aliens haha)

Best TNG film for me is First Contact great Picard lines in that one.

DS9 turns from great to Epic from S5 onwards. (coincidentally when Worf joins or was it S4? whoops spoiler? :D) Though i dont like some of the filler episodes...stuff to do with the Bajorans, Kira Zzzzzzz etc

People has told me that 1&2 are pointless viewing because they are terrible?

Just going on what other people have said

I'd definitely watch the first two seasons first as it builds the characters and some stuff is set up that becomes relevant later.
I was going to try and pick a few episodes that are worth watching, but I'd actually watch all of them.

Yeah, some episodes are not the best (and a few are downright awful) but you'll be missing out a lot of stuff by not watching them.
The end of season 3 just won't mean as much if you haven't got to know what Picard is all about by watching episodes like 'The Measure of a Man'

On the HD front, only the remastered TOS, first few seasons of remastered TNG (believe the blu ray releases have just hit S4) and about half of Enterprise (Ent switched over to being broadcast in HD sometime during S2 or 3 and the S1 blu rays have recently been released) are actually HD.

Anything else is just upscaled. Hopefully if the TNG blu rays continue to do well they'll remaster DS9 next.

Man there taking there time with the remastering makes me feel like riker does here:
