Star Wars: 1313 - thread

I'm all for another Dark Forces style game, the original was great even without lightsabers and force!

We need more Jedi Knight style games!

If BW were not part of EA. I would honestly say that they would do a great job on it! But we all know that not going to happen.

Exactly, look at recent titles with Bioware on them. The company name doesn't really mean **** anymore, especially since the core of the team have since left. :(

You've not seen SWtOR obviously....

Although there is a lot of critism around the MMO part of the game - from a story perspective it is excellent; the biggest complaint is around end game and missing MMO Features nothing that would effect a game like this.

It's actually not that great though, especially compared to the KOTOR games. The big problem is that nothing can ever actually change in the world, and the game does a **** job of disguising the fact. I saved the throne of alderaan from the empire last night, but once I go out that green barrier it suddenly hasn't happened anymore.

They can't even have your light / dark choices reflect in the game because it would be too much trouble. Even if you're the most evil character ever, the game insists you're good, because to do otherwise would have been too difficult.

They basically tried to jam one genre into another, and it didn't really work.

Again though isn't that a critism which is due to the MMO aspect; i dont disagree with the point - but had it not been an MMO and a KOTOR3 that would have been easily sorted, ME series show they can carry through story changes by decisions?

I just don't think it's fair to critise BioWare's ability when looking at their back catalogue of games on 1 game that was in a new genre for them?

Not saying they are perfect of course and I do think EA have been a bit of a virus for them because of their "money, money, money" approach - but they have made fantastic games.

Hasnt really been a decent Star Wars game since -

Tie Fighter
Jedi Knight - Dark forces II

Bioware did do a decent ish RPG Knights of the old Republic, and not forgetting Lego Star Wars...

We need a tie fighter / Jedi Knight reboot : - )

While I don't disagree with nothing changes based on your choices (odd lines of dialogue aside), realistically you have as much impact on the world as you did in any of the previous old republic games.

Be interesting to see just how mature the writing is. TOR drove me spare with some of its storylines, the jedi academy was like a mid-west American high school full of spoilt kids.

That reflects the maturity level of both the writers (hello Jennifer Hepler) and the audience that Bioware pitches at.

Can you imagine how much story they would have to write if everything you did affected the world as a whole? One person 3months ago killed character x or did y, therefore you can't do any of the awesome stuff we had planned. Seriously?

The way I play an MMO is the deeds and missions/quests are your own little world and what you do only affects the world as seen by you. City of Heroes does it well. When you join a team it tells you you are seeing world as the team leader sees it and through their deeds.

Kind of true, but id say it was a very average SP game when held up next to KOTOR 1 & 2. Way too little ability to influence events for a start. Not really surprising though.
