Star Wars Galaxies

When I played EVE Online a couple of people in my corp were network engineers for SOE and they worked on the SWG servers, in the US, and they said it was a purely a decision by Lucas Arts to do the NGE.

Didn't make it any easier to swallow.

Why oh why did they ruin SWG? I loved crafting, I loved searching for resources and I loved being a BH hunting player Jedi :(

I used to love the tradeskills and resource-gathering in this game. My medpacks were worth an absolute fortune :)

I also enjoyed a good session in the cantina :D

I've said this dozens of time on this board and elsewhere, but still you get people like those above who admit they werent involved and don't really know what happened, but still just really hate SOE because of it, thank heavens real life isn't the same.

You can still do that, the Space Update allows BH's to hunt players in space as well.

Cheers guys downloaded the 30 day trial for Fallen Earth instead lol!

Hehehe , generally when it comes to MMOs I always make a point of saying not to listen to people on forums and the best thing to do is to try the MMO and see for yourself as its the only way to see if an MMO is good for you.

On this particular case though, I am inclined to break with my tradition and agree with the forum mass :D

Started playing this again a few days ago after years off.

Third day of playing and I can't login due to them shutting it down temporarily due to the Sony security breach.

Anyone who's 'holding out for Old Republic' in the hopes that it's going to be another classic SWG clearly hasn't read a single thing about TOR. It's got WoW with lightsabers written all over it in big ugly letters.

Wow is basically the beheamoth of mmos, and if you look at what there doing with swtor thats a bit ludicrous to suggest. Fair enough there are a lot of similarities but good ones. All the good aspects from wow, just take alook at some of the screenplays and character interaction, its nothing like wow (oh look a quest, SPAM ACCEPT NEXT NEXT) and to suggest its going to be just like wow with lightsabers is daft and deluded. Anyone that has played KOTOR will realise this, not to mention its BIOWARE!

Not to mention wow has been going down hill since wotlk.

Iirc, EA bought Bioware, so they have a say in the development of a Star Wars game for the first time, and Bioware haven't delivered thrilling news of late with phrases along the lines referring to future game developments relating to CoD, so it will be interesting to see what this game is like on release.

That makes no difference. EA bought bioware in 2008, its not like they have gone downhill have they..Mass effect 2, bioshock 2, dragon age. Im definetly going to be giving SWTOR a bash. I just hate pessimistic people that are afraid of something beating wow (not refering to you btw).

Dragon Age 2 sort of breaks your list of intractable awesomeness

So they have gone downhill have they because Dragon Age 2 wasnt quite as good as other game sequels. Lets ignore other masterclass games they have released since 2008.

I forgot about ultima online (Albeit 1997) still was another benchmark for mmos.

To be fair though the "spam accept next next" type thing will happen in SWTOR too. The cutscene talky quest bits will be watched the first time, then people will complain on the forums that there is no way to click to skip them when you've watched them on your first 3 characters, then they will include a way to click or press a key to skip them, then people will just not watch them and click to skip them straight away in an effort to level faster. If there is one thing I have learned about MMOs and the masses, its that people generally want to level as fast as possible and if they can click to skip cutscenes to speed things up, they will do. It may be more clicks involved to accept next next, but it wont be long before clicked past.

Real star wars fans will disagree :P
