Just saw this pop up on Facebook:

Witness the beginning. Share the Experience. Feel the Force surround you. Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace is coming to theaters on February 10, 2012 in spectacular 3D!

Along with a trailer.

Didn't realise they were coming out in 3D, but  and :D

I am not sure how a film recorded can be properly turned into 3D, when it wasn't recorded in 3D.

I wonder if it will be like many bluray films of films that were recorded a long time ago, with the bluray looking pretty much identical to the dvd.

1 of the rubbish set of films + an afterthought gimmick tacked on years later + 3D Jar Jar Binks. Not sure if I would be able to sit through that attempt at squeezing more money from the fans. Will see what they can pull off I guess. episode 1 though..... hmmmm

A lot of films that have been released recently in 3D weren't filmed in 3D and are just ran through a computer programme.

Also, since The Phantom Menace was essentially a computer program it should look decent enough in 3D.

Nabbed some of the posters from work, they landed yesterday :D

I didn't say it wasn't a classic, but they were just cashing in on 3D and an old classic.

While, I don't think that I-III were great films, they're doing no different and IV, V and VI were classics.

The sooner that **** is dead so he can stop continually ruining the memory of 2 awesome films, the better.

May he rot in hell for Jar Jar ****ing Binks alone.

To be fair it's a hell of a lot of work, from what I know about it. I think compositors end up rotoscoping single frames at a time in order to separate the foreground from the background. I guess there's techniques out there now to speed it up though.

As if it didn't sound bad enough it's being done by Prime Focus who did such a 'great' job on Clash of the Titans

In short, they're farming it all out to India.

Yeah, I imagine it's a lot of work still, still less work and cheaper then actually filming a film in 3D properly though :p
