Starcraft 2 is Now a Trilogy

A couple of question this rises up, will you need all 3 games to play as all 3 races online? will they all be released at once? if not will you need the game before it to play or will it be a stand alone and last but not least how much are these games going to cost ?

no you wont need all 3 games to play all 3 races in multiplayer that one got cleared up stright away :)

This is all a great idea IMO. The only people loosing out are the ones who would prefer smaller campaigns, but in return have campaigns for each race in a single game. Personaly i prefer it this way, if they split it over 3 FULL games, that means there will be 3 epic campaigns (although at 3x the cost, obviously since each is a full game), instead of just 3 average campaigns

Doesn't matter to me. So long as I get to play Starcraft 2 at some point, with any race, I'm happy :) Although I must admit the announcement really did surprise me. I don't think anyone saw this coming

I doubt Blizzard are doing this as part of a profit-related strategy as they’re raking it in thanks to WoW.

looks like thye will release the first one, and the rest as a type of 'expansion' for singple player only...

the full game will be released with Terran campaign and full multiplayer with all races.

the reasoning behind it is because to perfect al t he campaigns they will need too much time to do it. so by releasing them individually it prevents people from getting bored... OBVIOUSL has nothing to do with money :o:o:o

but yes, i just hope they dont rush the balancing.. and if they do mess it up, lets hope they bring out some good patches for it :)

sorry if any of this has been mentioned, ive not read all posts...

mmm, well at least it might mean we get our hands on starcraft 2 earlier but still not entirely happy about it. Il judge it when i see price tags. As mentioned although there seems to be a mix in opinions.

But way i see it is you get first game 1 campaign with multiplayer. then each game after that is just 1 campaign and then another campaign. So as i see it each campaign after the first is merely a expansion. As they will be using the same engine the same units (most likely) from the multiplayer from the first game with just a bit of a story and maybe different maps. sounds a bit of a knock off to me.

Having said that if any company was going to do it, i wouldnt have put it past Activision-Blizzard...... or EA maybe :p

meh we shall see with time

i always loved movie trilogies, you get far more content that would be impossible to include in a single movie. its about time we see video game trilogies.

I guess the premise behind this is that they want to get the game to market quicker without having to make all 3 campaigns first.

Hook, line and sinker.

Blizzard have never usually worried about getting games out quick, they make the games as bug free as possible and when they are happy they release. They have shown they are quite happy to shelve games which after funding for a few years of development aren't meeting expectations - Starcraft Ghost, announced 2002, cancelled 2006. The merger with Activision and their influence has to be the main factor in this 'episodic' release.

The first Starcraft game came out 10 years ago and is still massively popular, so it's not as though they were thinking "oh the first one was a great success let's get the sequel out as quick as possible"

I like that they will put a detailed story in for each race (rather than three shorter campaigns), and buying separate instalments does not bother me as long as the second and thirds ones are cheaper ad-ons and not full price.

It could be great, it could be disappointing, but I am still hopeful.
