Starcraft II - The thread of threads!

just another RTS by the looks of it :(

I wish they would actually do something original like Mechcommander did. That, in my opinion, was the number 1 RTS of all time.

Pure strategy, Jump mechs, armour mechs, weapon mechs.

Armour ratings for each part of the mech made you think about which weapons you wanted to go for (armour piercing, heavy range, mix medium).

Weapon loads, weight loads, ammo count. Excellent graphics, fantastic playability and probably the best RTS multiplayer experience ever.

well they seem to have pretty much removed traditional macro from the game with autogathering, multiple fac hotkeying etc.

To be honest I've not read up on SC2 much at all.

From that description though it sounds to me that they've just concentrated on the more "interesting" micro stuff - unit control in battle. Guess it's debatable as to whether or not that's a good thing (sounds alright to me though).

Also: "just another RTS"? Much lol :)

nice video shame bit bad quality. you can see this guy played original starcraft as he does everything so quickly. oh cant wait it should rule all rts for the long time

IMO they could make a game with a new, modern 3D engine and update the graphics, change nothing else regarding units and capabilities, and sell a hellova lof of 'em. I'd definitely buy a copy of Starcraft 3/2.

well the graphics is better but could be much better but they aiming for mid end market but i say gameplay>graphics

I much prefer the micro side of SC so it suites me just fine :p

ahhh and this will be the game of games... wonder what the koreans will do now... will they all make the huge jump to SC2 as progaming or will they stay vanilla ... wonder how they'll work it out...

not looked at the video yet as im at work, but wil lhave a gander when i get home...

i love SC! - as a matter of fact, any blizzard game has been well made... SC / WoW being pinacle :)

Agreed more or less. Brood War with those graphics, maybe a twaek or two here and there but otherwise that what i'd like

They're not really changing 'everything'. Updates to the way you can control things and extra units/etc. Looks like it's maintaining the original SC feel fairly well.

I hope it maintains some SC feel and amazing gameplay....also I hope there are plenty of great UMS maps that will be made :D

My only gripe with blizzard is that their graphics have always been horrendous...but that's never stopped me from playing. Starcraft is one of the best games of all time

Couldn't agree more. Never understood why the series died.

This thread just reminded me to find a copy of Mechcommander, loved that game, so very underrated.

SC2 has kept a lot of the classic units from the original, like Siege Tanks, Battlecruisers, Zealots, etc just that Blizzard has evolved the game to cater for the brand new units they are adding :)

A lot of the professional korean gamers are working with blizzard to help make SC2 competitive. It's a shame no other RTS developer bothers that much with their games and fanbase.

They focus on performance, which is paramount in a competitive RTS game. You don't want any lag at all when you're clicking the mouse/keys at 300+ times a minute. Every little action is crucial.
