StarDrive - 4X4 Strategy ( INDIE )

Looks like starwars empire at war and Galactic civ had a child.

Oh? Do the ships have subsystems you can target, like SW:EAW? That was immense, especially when using Y - bombers against Star Destroyers. If I remember, I think Imperium Galatics II had brilliant space combat and scale-sized ships. Hmmm, might need to dig out IG2.

Read a lot of positive comments regarding this. Some complaints about the performance being sluggish towards end game, but overall very good. It does sound like a mix of Starwars Empire at war and Galactic Civ.

Apparently he quit his job as a lawyer to make this game. I find it hard to believe it was made by a one guy.

Well, i have this game and have been playing it now for quite awhile and it is well worth the £20 to pick it up. The game is getting a lot of attention and being patched often where needed and it really plays very well with few problems. If you're not in to controlling large fleets and having planet battles raging, then try Endless Space, which is also good but it has a very simplified combat system.

Both games work well on my system:

E7400
P5QL 4gig ram
GTX 260

How are you guys getting on with this, it does looks pretty good albeit a weak diplomacy system?

I love this game, but might be better for you to take a look at the forum for the game http://www.stardrivegame.com/forum/index.php and take a look around.

The game is very good and it has a lot going for it, so imo it's money well spent for what is a very good game. The support for the game is very good unlike many other games, but read through the forum and ask some questions.

Enjoy

What about the performance complaints, are they being ironed out because they sound like a gamer killer?

I'm a big 4X fan, not that I have time to play it but still, I'd be tempted to dip my toe.

Well I have no problems with this game and my system is:

E7400 2.8
P5QL 4gig ram
GTX 260

From all accounts the performance issue only comes into play once your have advanced into the game greatly and the there is a lot going on.

I paid for it on Kickstarter, just got my Steam code Saturday night so I've yet to play it fully.

I have played about 24 hours so far and I have being enjoying it. I installed the offline ship editor mod last night and since then the game crashes on start up. The games good hopefully I can get the crashing issue resolved. £20 is steep for an indie game, might be a good idea waiting to see if there is a steam sale in the summer, having said that it's been better value than some AAA titles that I have.

I've watched a few video reviews and it does look up my street, so I'll likely just take the plunge anyway.

I succumbed and purchased it earlier. I am very much enjoying it. I'm rubbish. I haven't worked out what the important reserch is.

However I am worried about the long term playability especially as its £22. The tech tree is pretty small and it's very much set up for battles.

It's fun, bit different than other 4X imo. The macro stuff is a little less involved imo, taxes, morale, planets are all pretty easy to manage. It's not got as much depth that way as say Endless Space, so if you're a research/resource/planet micro managing fan then it probably won't grip you as much.

The combat though has a very good/solid base, it's still fairly shallow, you design a ship, a fleet, build it then send it to fight the enemy. The ship customisation is a lot better than Endless Space, you can design your ships on base hull designs, power, engines, weapons etc are all there to be played with.

Overall the game is a very solid start, it has a lot of potential but at the moment, there is still quite a lot unfinished or needs to be improved.

I purchased the pre-order and have to say for £20, yeah worth it. That's an evening out drinking, or a takeaway :)

Has it crashed for anyone else? twice today so far.
I'm getting better, Spies are absolutely vital, as is getting anomalies.

It does crash, luckily the game autosaves regularly and I have not lossed much. Apparently in beta they were releasing patches once or twice a week and the guy who wrote the game is very vocal on the forums and is helping each person who has had issues including myself. He is currently working on a patch so hopefully it will it will fix the crashes.

£20! bloody 'ell, you're either a student or drinking water all night! :D

I get your point though, if it soaks up 20+ hours it's paid for itself.
