hi everyone my m8 has just sent me a text , when he turns his pc on he says it keeps checkin for file fat 32 and something to do with hardware or software changes and then gets the black screen giving him the option to start in safe mode .
anyone got any idea what its doin
cheeers

just asked him abit more and it wont boot at all when he selects safe mode it just loops straight back to the black screen ( could this be a virus ?)

maybe could be any component from ram to the disc itself. ask him to remove all the ram except one stick then boot. Will rule out Ram

i might get him to pop it round to me so i can do it cause he probably wont even know what ram is lol
then i will try to get advice as im checking it
cheers dave

FAT 32 is the file system on the hard drive. If he running win98 or 2000?
Windows XP up uses a different file system.
Sounds like its more likely to be a HDD problem.

the system is xp and his hdd is set up as ntfs , all that has been done recently is a new psu was fitted to it last week he did it himself so im wondering if he has knocked something loose ?

If hes bringing it round then yup, itd start by checking all the connections from the PSU to the motherboard and HDD(s).
If your still having no luck post us the full message that pops up, hopefully will be able to help further
