US Soldier being quized over grenade attack

A US soldier is being questioned about a grenade attack on an allied army base in Kuwait which injured at least ten soldiers.

The attack is understood to have been carried out by two men - one of whom is believed is being interrogated.

A US military official the incident occurred at Camp Pennsylvania near the Iraqi border.

The official did not identify the unit of the 101st Airborne Division that was in the camp. He said it had been in Kuwait for about one week.

But Jim Lacey, a correspondent for Time magazine who was at the camp, told CNN two grenades had been rolled into the command tent, in what appeared to be a "terrorist attack".

that man tells more lies than Saddam.

Hes an annoying git, i hope they catch him and punish him, he still thinks iraq is going to "punish" the american and british forces, it would take an act of god to stop the overthrow of iraq now, and even that wouldnt involve troops being punished by iraq. when will this man learn.

As for the downed aircraft i very much doubt iraq has the ability to bring down a plane attacking them, they fly to high out of range of dumbass iraquis, if they did it must have been a lucky shot.

At the start of the war I agreed with it, and since the start it has shown that these foolish dictators are not good enough to run a cornershop never mind a country.

Just heard that B52s are taking off, no doubt more devastation on the way to Baghdad.

Aye exactly!

I'm just waiting for the day when he says they shot down a B52:D

Aint gonna happen son!! (i hope)

PS - next B52 appears to be being prepped.

'US SOLDIER ATTACKS TROOPS'

An American Muslim soldier is understood to have carried out a grenade attack on a US military camp which injured 16 soldiers.

A second man, who is not a soldier, is thought to be held.

Three grenades were rolled into three tents housing military leaders of the 101st Airborne Division Saturday night at Camp Pennsylvania, home of the, near the Iraqi border, said Sky correspondent Stuart Ramsay, who is in the base.

The grenade that was rolled into the first tent, where the commanding officer sleeps, did not go off.

But two other grenades used to attack tents where the unit's majors and captains sleep did explode.

'Acting weird'

Ramsay watched as the suspects were held.

"Two men are being held, one of which is a Muslim soldier who is an engineer," Ramsay said.

"It appears he was hiding in a barrack where the attacks happened. A second man, who we believe is not an American soldier, is being held by the military.

"As the man who carried out the attack moved away there was some shooting. He was shot in the leg. He was held on the ground less than 100 yards from where the attack happened."

He said fears about the Muslim soldier's behaviour had been raised in recent days by colleagues.

Interrogation

"In recent days they were concerned about his behaviour and were not going to send him up to the front when the soldiers were going to be deployed."

It is not clear whether the soldier, who Ramsay said would have been in the Gulf for some weeks, had planned the attack before being deployed.

"To be honest we just do not know," Ramsay said.

"Talking to other soldiers, it could be that he was disgruntled. They said he had been acting 'weird' for days."

Eleven soldiers who were seriously hurt were flown out of the camp by helicopter.

It seems the ITN crew were caught in the cross fire, and ended up getting in the way of British Artillery.

Also it was stated in the same article, they had crossed many checkpoints, were told it was not safe, but chose to carry on.

Yeah Sleepy, similar stuff that the BBC is reporting.... wonder if they shot something down.

Haven't seen anyone mention this, but the Camerman from the ITN crew that escaped, Daniel Demoustier claims that it was friendly fire from British forces that his crew got caught up in. He sounded very coy about it when interviewed on tv.

Aye, although they were more caught in fire between British forces and iraqi forces, rather than them just being shot at.

They were also told to turn back at several checkpoints, but chose to carry on.
Its very sad indeed if they have lost their lives, very sad indeed. But, they were taking a big risk after being advised otherwise.

They even decidied to travel on their own, rather than with a brigade.

Amazing shots of Iraqis shooting wildly into the river and river bank. There's more journalists than troops present. Unreal

Such a lovely way to search for a downed pilot.

God damn .... .....

BREAKING NEWS

There are reports of huge blasts in west Baghdad as planes pound a single target in the city, according to Reuters.

"The earth shook under our feet and buildings shook. A huge, huge cloud of white smoke billowed hundreds of feet into the sky," Reuters correspondent Nadim Ladki said.

"From what we have seen in the last few days, I think these must have been some of the biggest bombs dropped in Baghdad so far," he added.

Three or four more explosions were later heard from different areas of the capital, including one near the centre of the city.
