is it confirmed that troops r going in at 4:30pm? it just seems strange that they would annonce it like this, after that cockup in the falklands when the media anounced an attack b4 it happened, a lot of people died that day.

Not confirmed. That sort of thing wont be announced.

Its all leaked news.

4:30 sounds about right tho.

reporters really should learn to keep their mouths shut.

You can bet one of them was evesdropping and found out the rough plans for the attacks then decided to get som recognition for dropping the story first. I hope its just a ploy to get more Iraqi soldiers to defect

I like the fact they're deliberately showing the B52 bombers being loaded full of 500lb bombs at RAF Fairford, shows them what's on it's way to them in 6 hours time.

Turkish Parliament authorises Tuskish military to start moving into Northern Iraq.

If they go near the Kurds, this could get ugly VERY quickly.

The way i heard it, they have only allowed Allied aircraft to overfly Turkey.

Mite be wrong tho :)

US claims hit on senior Iraqi leadership position

Donald Rumsfeld says the United States hit a senior Iraqi leadership position in its initial strikes.

The US Defence Secretary said the assault "was the first. It likely will not be the last."

Rumsfeld warned Iraqis not to go to work, but to stay in their homes and listen to coalition radio broadcasts.

"The day of your liberation may soon be at hand," Rumsfeld said. "The days of the Saddam Hussein regime are numbered.

"We continue to feel there is no need for a broader conflict if the Iraqi leaders act to save themselves and to prevent such further conflict."

The Pentagon assessed the damage from its initial strikes against targets in Iraq and primed for a broader assault involving 250,000 US and coalition forces.

The war's opening salvos were aimed directly at Iraq's leaders, including Saddam Hussein.

A senior military official said military intelligence was picking up signs and "circumstantial evidence" that Saddam and his senior leadership were either incapacitated or out of communication with battlefield commanders. It was too early to say if they were killed or wounded.

"We are seeing no co-ordinated response to our first attack," the official said. "It's little things here and there. Some individual commanders are hunking down while others are launching small attacks and setting fires."

Military officials "believe it is significant that there is a lack of co-ordination and significant resistance to what we did," the official added.
