Hi Guys,
So with my new camera on the way and great advise on which to go for (D5300) i have now done various research and looking around and have sort of decided on the following 2 lenses to get me rolling to fill in gaps to start with.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D
Tamron AF 70-300mm

And obviously my camera comes with the stock lens of 18-55

I am planning on doing Wildlife/Airshows(Only 1 i plan to go to atm mind), Doing plants / landscape.

And also plan on using the camera at weddings / special dos.

Cheers

I wouldnt bother with either of those on you body, the 50mm won't auto focus and the Tamron is poor optically, save some extra cash and get the 35mm f1.8 DX and the Nikon 55-300mm VR.

Okay thank you both, I will save for them instead, I am sure the stock lens will do me fine for a month or so while i get the other 2 :)

There is a Tamron 70-300mm VC lens which is Quite good, but make sure it is the VC version with vibration control. The older non-VC is really bad.

Similar with Nikon, the 70-300mm VR is very good, but the older 70-300mm is really bad.
The 55-300mm VR DX is also good, not quite up to the 70-300mm VR though.

I have to agree with D.P here. You always save a lot more and get a Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD.

I've got the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR lens but now wished I'd saved a bit more and got the Tamron 600mm

Deffo the 35mm f1.8. It's all i ever use on my D7100 and for the price its just an awesome lens.

It's small and light, fast, great colour reproduction and extremely sharp even at f1.8. For £100 can't speak highly enough of it.

Can't help with any longer lenses as i don't use them but the Nikkor 55-300mm is meant to de decent, but never used it.

Same as the canon 50mm

I don't use mine much now. I prefer the 35mm I have in terms of focal length (although It was 10x the price)

It's a must have starter lens!

So as i am going to a wedding this weekend, and read the 35mm is also great for landscapes i have gone for it and it also had cashback offer.

Feel this lens will give me a pretty good cover on what i would like to do except for wildlife which can wait.

Can not wait to start shooting with this :)

So i am now itching to get the Nikon 55-300mm VR, specially while the nice weather is about so i can do some nice shots.

Fact there's a £25 cashback on it too which brings it down to £237 is tempting.

How are you finding the 35mm? Interested in picking one of these up after seeing this thread. Seems to have great reviews, with the only negative I have seen being too much chromatic aberration.

Really love it, absolutely cracking lens glad i asked here to be told to get that over the 50mm.

The wedding photos came out crisp and stunning, some cracking bokeh is had from the lens :D and also did some random scenery shots and they look awesome too below as a example.
