Starting to get artifacts in a game, dead graphics card?

Hi.

I recently bought Team Fortress 2 and have played it for about 15 hours without any problem. I have recently started to get big artifacts in the loading screen / game and decided to reformat and reinstall Windows with new drivers etc. I was able to play TF2 for a few hours last night without any issue but now it artifacts after about 1 min every time.

I installed latest ForceWare drivers and have an XFX AGP nVidia 6800 Vanilla. GPUZ says the core is only at 45°C. Is my card on it's way out? :(

UPDATE: Got my first artifacts in Windows on the login screen when I booted up. :(

Yeah, the RAM is probably at fault. Take a look at the heatsink and see if it's blocked up with dust anywhere, if you're lucky it's only one of the RAM chips not getting enough airflow.

Just pray it's malfunctioning and not permenantly damaged (your chances probably aren't too good if you're getting artifacts when the card is cold).
 
That's what I thought but the heatsink feels cool to the touch and there is very little dust in my computer. I think it might be time to source a used AGP card to replace it.
 
You should probably think about replacing your system if you're still on AGP, you can probably put together a reasonable core 2 duo system for £200-300 including GPU if you reuse parts (and then overlock the nuts off it :D)
 
I would but I can't justify the cost. My current AGP system is/was good enough for playing TF2 and that's all I am interested in using the computer for. I have the use of a laptop that I can use for browsing the web if necessary.
