Hi Guys

I have had a problem ongoing for a few days now which has now got bigger.

I got an lsass.exe the other day, done full updates and scans on AVG, Spybot and AdAware 2007.

Picked up nothing to do with this.

I don't get it every boot but only occasionally.

Now when I boot I get an installation configuration thing for Roxio Update Manager. How do I stop this from starting???

'i got an lsass' doesn't give us much info to work with!

install windows defender, untick the 'real-time file scanner' in the options for it, and use the 'software explorer' part to manage your startup

If anyone has other ideas could you let me know I don't really want to reinstall XP! (I hate doing that).

You can add me on MSN for a direct approach. MSN In trust or on my profile.

Many Thanks.

I spoke to Dell today and they recommended a reinstall. So I have got to go through that horrible process.

Anyway thanks for the help bledd and swordfish (from other thread).

I have lsass.exe running now and like you said, sometimes it runs and sometimes it doesn't... lsass is a system process and is perfectly normal.

However the sasser worm exploited a vulnerability in lsass.exe. But this has now been patched by Microsoft i believe.
