I do wonder what Disney will do on the gaming front going forward. Avengers has been a disaster, and EA have underused the Star Wars IP. Do they partner with someone else? If so, who? I can't imagine they'll have any more success with Activision or Ubisoft.
So do they issue licenses for Disney properties on a per-game basis (or contract studios to specific work)? If so, thing seem a bit... bleak to me on the RPG front. There's only really one "safe" independent studio with experience building high quality RPGs; CDPR. Everyone else with experience in this area is either owned by a major publisher (Bioware, Obsidian, inXile, Bethesda, Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Quibec, Guerilla Games) or would need extensive support and funding (Warhorse, Larian).
Or do they set up their own gaming division and found or buy studio(s)? That's take a long time. Only have to look at Microsoft to see that. If Disney go that route, it could easily be 2030 by the time we see such a game.
Whatever they do, I hope there's some significant change. Unlike some, I don't have a strong dislike of EA's Star Wars content. But there just isn't enough of it. In 7 years, they've released two Battlefront games, Fallen Order, and Squadrons. They've got another two and a half years left to run on the license, and the only game they're known to be working on SWJ2.
