Static IP on Wireless Network

Talk to me in layman's terms how to set up a static IP address for my wireless system. I had it set as static when wired no problem utorrent was fine. Now I have gone wireless, I believe I have to set something on the router DHCP? but I am not sure where it is. I have a BT Voyager 2091 router.
I only have 1 computer and an Xbox 360 on my network

Hi

You can set it in the router is you know the Mac address of the wireless cards.

To get to the setting in the 2091

Browse to 192.168.1.1 then click on advanced on the left hand menu and then advanced in the main pane.

Click on Configuration in the left hand menu and then Local Network
In the main pane click on DHCP Server along the top of the main pane

Click on Reserved IP Address List and here is where you can reserve the IP's based on the Mac address of your network cards or wireless cards.

Thanks, I have run ipconfig /all from the command prompt, which is my "mac" address? Also I presume I add this along with a static ip of my choosing ie: 192.168.1.x <--where x is a number withinn the DHCP range like 1----254?

Hi

Yes just make sure on the PC that you use the Mac for the wireless adapter as if the machine has a wired card on the machine you will also have the wired card Mac displayed so just make sure you use the Mac for the wireless card.

Thanks HomerJ, just trying it now. Need to make sue uTorrent isn't firewalled. I have forwarded uTorrent in my router with the same ip as my static one so that should do it. I have used the wireless mac also

Edit: Still firewalled?? Do I need to turn off DHCP?

You may need to release and renew your IP on the wireless connection to get the IP you set.

Sorted now. I just had to reboot my router, uTorrent no longer firewalled

It's no different setting them up on wireless as it was on a wired network.

I could do it from my TCP/IP settings for the wired, but for some reason it didn't take when I tried it for the wireless?

Something was wrong then - it should (and does) work fine.
