Staying awake

When I was at uni, I had a 48 hour examination, which meant we got the exam paper then had 48 hours to write 3 full essays.

Once we'd got over the initial mad panic to get to the library and get books, (some cheeky people took out nearly all the books we needed and wouldn't let anyone borrow them... yeah cheers for that!!!), we settled down to a bt of planning work , then seeing as it was a nice sunny day we ha a water fight for about 3 hours....

Anyway, the long and the short of it is that I needed to stay awake for pretty much the whole night to get the essays out of the way. I decided my best bet was a serious sugar hit!!! So I made myself a cupt of tea with about 14 sugars in it. While I was waiting for the sugar to kick in I kept myself active so I didn't fall asleep.

Once the sugar kicked in I didn't feel tired at all, though I had problems writing the essays as I was really jittery and jumpy and twitchy and couldn't focus my brain.... DOH!!!

Eventually got the essays done but they weren't great!!!

My recommendation, if you want to saty awake try sugar (though you'll feel terrible once it's worn off) if however you need to use your brain or concentrate at all while you're awake for so long it's not a great plan!!!

I find it quite strange how people don't think twice when raping their bodies with stupid amounts of caffeine by drinking Red Bull a lot but would never touch *drugs* :\

I meant the 'Cocaine Energy Drink'. Not the drug cocaine. ;)

My quote of the day (make that yesterday, damn midnight).

Caffeine has no effect on me. Large amounts of sugar don't do a lot either, apart from making me feel a bit sick. The best thing when I've had huge projects and stuff (the biggest was a couple of years ago, gcse art folder deadline night  ) I put some fairly frantic music on, happy hardcore I think, and just got really into it. It helps if you're enjoying what you're doing I suppose

Rocket Fuel Coffee 4TW!

A cup of that with 1 sugar and an empty stomach = You bouncing off the walls for 2 hours.
I've tried that, it really is that strong! A cup of instant had me jittery, nervous and hyper-talkative for the next 2 hours, even though I usually drink fresh coffee, which is a lot stronger - I normally start my days with a quintuple espresso from freshly-ground beans and it never made me as hyper as a cup of that gunk did! I reckon it was the guarana, although a few months after trying Rocketfuel I bought some Guarana tablets from Boots and never found that they had the same effect.
Not worth it though, it takes like corroded tin and it'll probably give you a huge comedown. Normal coffee every time.

I reckon I took about 1000mg over 10 hours

1000mg isn't that much—one thirteenth of the LD50 for someone who weighs ~150lbs.

Enough to make you nice and jittery, but not particularly dangerous :)

Forget Red Bull, too damn expensive. Tesco sell Kick and Sainsburys sell Bolt. Both come in 1l bottles for a pound, and they are both very good Red Bull clones. They have the same ingredients in the same quantities. The only differences are a slight taste difference, packaging, and the fact that you get four times as much as 250ml Red Bull can for your money...

My preference is Kick. I think it has a nicer taste than Bolt, but Bolt is still worth having. I always have at least one spare bottle of it with me up on the crane, just in case I feel a bit tired at the wrong moment. :D
