I'm catching up with Medium and have one season to go - man!
My mother watches that, it possibly angers me more than any other program on TV. You're going to get such a ranting at for this.
They portray her as such a helpful little hero who the police rely on to solve the case and put the crim in jail, but this is nothing like the reality of the "mediums". Every time there is a missing child in the US, these self centred little halfwitted attention whores pour out of the woodwork, claiming to be able to help. But not once have any of them solved a case, found a child, or contributed anything of value to any investigation, they just amass a following of mugs who believe they can help, who would all be of better use searching conventionally, the "mediums" actually need to be locked up.
Now if there was one or 2 out there who have genuine psychic powers, could they be hidden by the waves of pretenders? Answer: No, go and read up on the James Randi prize. But they don't want the money? So donate it to charity, it's $1m for ****'s sake. Randi has actually invited several "mediums" to take the test, some have ignored the issue, some have accepted and then never gone through with anything.
Dramas like this are just going to encourage them, glorify what they do (which should be, and might already be illegal), and encourage copycats.
Now go and watch S01E10 of Penn & Teller's Bull****, then maybe I'll consider letting you off with a stern warning for watching such ****.
Edit:
Possibly the up and coming documentary on the Hudson river plane crash angers me more. The trailer just leaves me fuming, mostly for 2 lines:
"Miracle on the Hudson" - It was not a sodding miracle you morons, it was an amazing piece of piloting, any lives saved were as a direct result of the skill of the flight crew. This was the best landing of an airliner on water EVER, period.
"The chances of surviving were a bazillion to one." - No they were no you moron, statistically speaking your chances of surviving a water landing in an airliner aren't that bad, probably between a third and a half, maybe more.
