Steak Question

Only on the surface of meat like beef will you find the bacteria that can give you food poisoning - ensuring it is seared on all sides, it doesn't matter what the middle is like. Obviously, if the thing is green then it is too past it anyway.

However, don't take this to mean it is the same for all meats such as pork and chicken; pork in particular can have worms that travel and nest in your eye, and the worm eggs are deeply embedded in the muscles and needs to be cooked through (by cooking through, it means the very deepest centre of whatever meat your are cooking needs to reach 70 Celci. for at least two minutes).

I like it cooked well, will be giving it 10 mins per side to make sure, it says 5 - 7 so that should be good

If you want to make sure its safe follow these instructions:
  1. Take the steak and put it in the bin
  2. Slap yourself for considering cooking it that long
  3. Hang your head in shame
I'm sorry, but you simply do not deserve to eat a steak if you're going to do that to it.

Lol @ 10 minutes per side.

I don't think even Gilly cooks steak for that long :p

Oh and use by dates are useless. Meat can be fine after them and not particularly good before them. The best way to tell it to simply smell the meat and see.

i'm really funny with use by dates normally, i won't eat anything that's even a day out of date, but i would still eat a steak a couple of days out :)

Use by dates are a bit silly. It's just an exercise in arse covering. Use it as a guide - just check more stringently after the date whether the food has gone bad.

Hell, it's not like things never go off before the dates.
