Guys im with BT and have been for ages. However, every month they claim that we have gone over our download limit of 10gig. And subsequently they charge us for this.

We are notified that we are going over the limit just 3-5 days into the new month!

I dont download films, music, games etc - i ONLY use online gmaing such as COD, WoW etc. Even then its only 4 hours a day max.

So, firstly, is it even physically possible to download 10gigs of info THAT quickly from online gaming and secondly, is there a good way of making sure someone isnt stealing our BB connection?

cheers

What router have you got? Is it Tomato compatible? If so there's some awesome bandwidth monitoring tools and option to lock down on there.

Do you have a wireless access point, or a wireless router? Do you have a PC that's been infected with a virus/trojan?

There's no way that games would use 10GB in 3-5 days.

sounds to me like someone is just owning your wireless connection for movies and such. change the router password and the wireless password and get a bw monitor app.

do i change the wep key from the router settings? like when i type in 192.168.1.1 and directly access the router - do i change it from in there?

You can do, but moving to WPA or WPA2 if all your kit supports it will serve you better. WEP is easily crackable.

cmd - ipconfig - default gateway ip, put that in your browser.

Now if it were me I would look to see if they have an obvious hostname then if it relates to any of my neighbours i'd but nocking on their door + maybe get a little leaverige on the situation few passwords should do it. But that would be naughty.

If you cant login the user might have chance the password to the router which im guessing is still default, which would mean resetting the router, little button somewhere.

Would use WPA2 to secure your network and maybe use mac addresses for access.

well im sticking with 128Bit WEP at the mo - nobody will guess the number and the admin password has been changed too so that will help also.

Can anyone reccomend me a good net monitoring tool? Ive used 'Netmeter' in the past but if there is a better one then im all ears. Cheers

Ok im now using WPA2, ive changed all admin passwords, router passwords and i now need a good monitoring tool - any help much appreciated.

thanks
