Hey all,

I recently saw the Friends episode where Ross' obsession with stealing "complimentry" items from hotels is shown :p

It got me thinking, what items do I - or anyone else - steal or use when using hotels.

I done a bit of research, and it's quite surprising what some people think is complimentry or not. Do you take the batteries out of the remote control? Do you take the towels before you leave? Or do you just use the bed and move on? :p

Let your inner Hotel Thief out - This is a safe environment :p

I've left with towels on the very odd occasion - when I've been to the gym and put them in my bag forgetting to take them out when I leave.

I don't purposefully take stuff unless it's biscuits. Never leave my biscuits :D

I take the pens too.

They have your credit card, i have never thought it worth stealing anything obviously not complimentary such as batteries or towels before. They will surely follow it up.

Off the top of my head I don't think I have ever actually done that. Cant think I have ever taken something with me I didn't bring in the first place. How boring, maybe I should remedy that.

I was at a pretty posh hotel at the weekend, I took everything I thought it reasonable to take, including the spare toilet roll. It costs them practically nothing to replace and when you're paying such a lot of money I don't see the problem to be honest.
Stealing that toilet roll saved ~70p!

What else did you steal?

Toiletries certainly, they're useful when traveling and you need small bottles to transport in hand luggage.

Coffee/Sugar etc. I would but we've amassed quite a collection at home so don't need any more.

Some robes/slippers are meant to be one person use only, I think in Japan they came wrapped so they're almost disposable, those I'd take away too but regular towels I'd leave.

Essentially everything that is reasonably expected to be used during your stay. The trick is if you're there for more than one night to remove everything on the first day so they replace it all for the next day. ;)

Taking batteries/loo roll/bibles/lightbulbs is a bit too *****! :p:D

I nicked the cleaner's trolly. Never know when that might come in handy.

I'm like a trapdoor spider me, come close enough to my den and it's MINE.

Not if it's just me staying, I use the complimentary stuff like shampoo and shower gel etc but I don't take stuff, especially towels even though I like to as they are huge and fluffy! But they have my card details so there's nothing to stop them to charge me £20 for a towel!

Last place I stayed at, Drakes at Brighton, the girl insisted that I take the slippers (part of the welcome pack), I did but never use them when I got home so after a week I binned it. She took coffee sachets and biscuits and stuff but I don't. Don't see the point.

The only thing that I would take if wasn't used is some hotel give you complimentary bottled water. I take one for the road.

The individual packets of Twinnings tea, various types, a couple of packets of hot chocolate powder, two bars of soap, all the little bottles of shampoo, conditioner etc, some biscuits, a sowing kit and from breakfast a couple of small jars of jam, some bottled water and the loo roll. Everything listed was 'complimentary' anyway so I didn't really steal anything...

Lol, I love this one,

"It's wrong to steel a lamp shade, but its ok to steel the light bulb"

:p

Ahaha I'm off to a conference tomorrow so this thread is immediately relevant :p Biscuits is a must, but I think batteries from the remote control is nigh-on petty theft. Depends on the poshness of the hotel (which influences the stuff you get) - the last hotel I went to gave you glass-bottled water every day in your room so I pilfered one of the bottles for future use. Twinings tea (as mentioned above) is also a must, unless it's one of the strange herbal-fruity combinations!

"Remote no no no, batteries yes yes yes"

just the little bits and bobs, havnt gone for a towel yet, but then ive never stayed in a nice hotel really! first time i do, ITS MINE!

Well, I am staying at a 4 star place this weekend lol will take pics of what I could have taken :p

Side point though, I pretty much travel with no spare space in my bag, there is no way in hell I could fit a towel in there !
