Steam and skype problem

Im tryin g to play co op on saints row the third

Im trying to chat with my mate over skype

But when we start co op

The volume on skype goes really quioet and i can barely hear him talk

Its like its confilcting with steam

Any ideas how i can resolve this

Had a similar issue myself recently, with similar apps.

Make sure both are set to run as admin. Make sure you specify which sound I/O devices to use, rather than letting the apps choose for themselves.

If you go to sound > communication in control panel and make that is set to 'Do nothing'

Almost possible probably maybe not the cause but cant help (edit:hurt) checking.

Steam is trying to use its own in game chat feature

How can i disable it?

In steam settings you can change it to push to talk.

Had this issue with GMod and Ventrilo. Took us a while to work out what it was.
