Steam badges.....what are they for?

It helps level up your profile which in turn for me stops the majority of toxicity on CS2 when people are spamming "cheater". As they see my profile is 21 years old and a high level they then sometimes refrain from the toxic spam
 
What I could never fathom is that you still get drops og cards where you've fully completed all the badges for a particular game.

There's a random chance of getting new drops periodically ; every time another player completes a badge someone else is given a card drop. Your chance of being the recipient increases with your profile level.

I thought it was based on your own playtime as you don't receive drops when you don't play for example.

The initial drops are based on you playing the game, but after that it's via the mechanism I described above ... I've had loads of drops for games I haven't played in ages.

Neve had any personally unless I've been playing.
 
I once made a set of cards, and then did whatever the next stage is where I seemingly traded cards for a wallpaper which was worth less on the market than the cards I'd traded it for.

I have no idea what the wallpaper is for, nor the cards, really.

You will have created a badge for your profile and in turn recieved exp which goes towards your next level which is displayed rop right of your profile page.

The wallpaper can be used on your profile page alap, should tou apply it.
 
Been on Steam over 20 years and never knew what they were for either, don't pay any attention to badges, achievements, awards and NFT's, just something for the kids I guess. So these things are worth money then? My kids might inherit something after all.
