First of all, you’ll need to be in the Steam beta. To get there you need to run Steam, click on the file menu option Steam, then pick Settings. In there, you’ll see “CHANGE…” under “Beta participation”. Click on that, and opt into the beta. It’ll automatically restart, but when it’s done you’ll want to quit out completely. Now you need to add a switch to the Steam shortcut.

So find the icon, Start menu option or whatever shortcut you use to load it, right click on it, and choose Properties. In there you’ll see the path it loads from looking something like this:
C:\Steam\Steam.exe

You want to add “-dev” to it, after a space, so it looks like this:
C:\Steam\Steam.exe -dev

Run that, and now you’ll see an extra page option, on the right after NEWS, called CONSOLE. Click on that one, and then type the following into the text field:
install_folder_ui

Hit return and it’ll give you a window that looks like this:

Choose “Add install folder”, and pick another place where you’d like to install Steam games. And you’re done!
Now, whenever you attempt to install a game using the new file system (pretty much anything recent, and many will update), when you choose to install you’ll have a dropdown box offering any of the folders you’ve set via the console option.

Very much so, you could install long load games or mp games to the ssd drive and massive games to the 1TB drive :D

make a steam thread with all steam in it . a suggestion i might add.

i can see how to open steam thread coming next and how to spell steam in the near future

Meh,

I wouldn't have checked a 'general steam thread', glad I found out via this thread.

About darn time they added this feature!

Now they need to add..

-carry on downloading when these games are open.. (tick the games you only play offline)
-limit downloading speed to xxxkb/s when these games are open (to stop your ping being trashed)

It's annoying that you can't play a game that you currently have whilst downloading.

You can, just Alt-Tab out of the game and resume the download in Steam. Then go back to your game. :)

Huh? OP is merely highlighting an upcoming feature which many people may not be aware of.

basically what im saying is steam make many changes yes ?

so do we make a thread about every change ? nope not if anyone has a brain you would just make a steam thread about updates and what they do or maybe just a steam thread in general

look at your steam update there is numerous steam updates each day or every two days do we need a thread about these ? nope why ? cause we are as a majority already getting these messages when launching steam or on steam

hope this is understood. i come on here to read news about games not every thread about a steam updates .

Please can we close Steam on your TV thread too please :p

Come on Dg I know this is a "small" feature update but it is of massive interest to probably 95% of OCUKers so for that reason alone these type of threads can become standalone.

Give it a rest ffs

First it was the indie complaints, now it's steam

just saying make a steam update thread or are you going to make a steam update thread ? :p just put all of these in there .

indie was valid complaint you have a sticky about indie games then put single threads about indie games. doesn't matter anyway my word means nothing just pm the admins ;)

iv got nothing against you personally i just don't agree with how you post as im sure you don't me seeing as you call me a troll at every opportunity or just contact admins about any little thing .

what you are posting in this thread or similar about steam pops up every time there is a update on steam for every user. that is all i was saying and why just keep posting single threads on this . is this the new steam update section ?

if you don't agree please report to admin as a differing opinion to yours is a offense and shouldn't be took lightly on a public forum .
