Steam - COD4 PunkBuster Error?

Hi,

I've just used Steam for the first time and purchased COD4 Modern Warfare.

When I switch to Multiplayer I get the following error: -

Unable to initialize PunkBuster. PunkBuster is disabled.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can get this error fixed and PunkBuster enabled?

go to the pb site and dl the latest version.

this, and last time i played cod4 on steam i had to disable the steam overlay to get on a server without being kicked

The latest PBSetup, Secuirty Files or Client Files?

Also, where is the PB folder on my PC, have had a look and can't find it?

Running Win 7 Pro 64bit, if that makes any difference.

Urgh i despise PB for the very fact that its auto update NEVER seems to work properly and actually finding the location to dl it on there site is nigh impossible. Your version shouldn't make a difference.

This is a rather lame question but, 'Steam Overlay'? Where is this done?

That'll be because you where probably in a steam beta.

the normal one is fine.

press shift + tab in game and you can browse the web /tak etc.

to turn it off it's in the settings file, BUT if it was the overlay that was casuing you problems the error message would be something like "PB error unauthorised overlay detected."

i was using normal steam last time, have never used a beta steam, after you do your PB update just test the game first, if it seem to kick you after a few seconds connecting to a server then disable it, im running on xp pro sp3 so maybe windows 7 dosn't have this problem with cod4/pb
its a strange problem as BC2/pb works perfectly fine with the overlay

PB sucks major...

I spent the best part of 5 hours getting a NEW install of PB and BFBC2 to work online without getting kicked with erroneous errors.

Stupid stupid stupid system, does not even work properly.

Ended up working randomly. I went through entire deletion of all files, registry entries, manually deleting services everything. Total ball ache.

just put pb update in google http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

download and update whichever needed

I had to disable the steam overlay as well on the standard version.

Recommend you do the same if none of the other above fixes work.
