Steam 'common' folder.

Recently did a format, but I made sure I backed up my main Steam folder.

I've installed Steam again now after the format and I'm in the process of copying the common folder. What do I need to do after this is done to make sure all the games show in the library again?

Thanks guys, I did put the common folder back and re-set steam but it's just asking me to download the games again when I click install. Not sure what to do.

If the data is there it will "download" the games really quickly, like 100MB/s. It's just really checking the data on the drive

This is what i do, i have steam installed to my games drive and whenever i reinstall windows just make a shortcut for it on my desktop and start it up and everything is as it was before the reinstall of windows.

This is what I do when reinstalling OS.

This is not just for Steam, but do as follows;

Copy the installation files of anything you want to keep before a fresh install to a portable HDD.

Copy any related files from AppData (Type %appdata% into an explorer window) to the portable HDD.

Reinstall Windows.

Reinstall the software you want (Steam for example) as this will add the program to the registry.

Force close the program via task manager.

Replace all install files with the ones on portable HDD.

Reopen program (Steam) and it will be just like it was before fresh install and will not ask you to redownload.

Games are likely to ask for there Keys again as these will no longer be in the registry, but you can get them by right clicking the game in steam.
