Steam Controller Demonstration

Did anyone else notice that in the first two tests the controller looks like the pictures but on the second two the trackpads look different? It might just be the change of camera angle or maybe a different prototype, just seemed a little weird.

:EDIT: IE on the first two the surface of the trackpads look more gritty and less glossy. The second two tests look like the surface of the trackpads are a vinyl record.

Don't like the swiping action to do a full 360 could cause problems while playing on line, il stick to me 360 controller if i use one :D

Swiping + buttons other than triggers looks like it could be difficult, really not convinced and less so since seeing it in action.

However I'd need to try it to see, but for long periods of gaming especially it doesn't look like it's be particularly comfortable.

I'd like to see them show some fast-paced stuff. I think that's people's main concern, not being able to react quickly enough. From the video, the accuracy looks great. The high resolution means that you can turn up the sensitivity to move quickly when you need it (in FPS's for example) and still retain accuracy, something joysticks lack.

I'm sure it works well. They wouldn't be pushing it if it didn't. I bet after a while using it, you can get just as proficient as with a mouse. People just don't like change!

Very excited about this as a solution for strategy and mouse driven games (I see myself playing Don't Starve on the sofa with this) where couch gaming would normally require m&kb. Still not convinced for fps, but it could still be a step forwards from sticks if it means the death of auto-aim.

It's clearly an evolution of the controller to make sofa game play BETTER and not a replacement for the KB/Mouse where high speed accuracy counts.

It's for casual play, not the competitive scene.

Looks interesting though, might be tempted to try for more casual titles.

Haha, shows how crap I am at FPS as I thought he aimed fairly fast in counter strike. Certainly faster than using a normal controller. I guess a lot depends on how good this guy is at fps and also i'd imagine this new pad will take some practise. In later videos after some improvements and practise it will give a better idea of how well it works.

For a first sneak peak i'm quite impressed. I share the concerns about the buttons though. They just don't seem very well positioned at all.

Actually looks better than I thought it would, really need to give it a go to see if I'd buy one though. It's gonna have to be be very special and easy to use to beat the 360 pad / KB/M combo.
