This is a purely theoretical question for a bit of fun.

How much would you pay for unlimited access to every single game currently on steam, and every single game that will ever gets released to steam? The kind of 'ultimate steam ID'?

The thing is -- steam could go bust tomorrow and no more games so it's a bit of a gamble purchase! So -- for a bit of fun -- how much wodja would you give 'em for full access to blimin' everything, until you die (or they do!).

(small print -- only you can use the account, you're not allowed to sell/gift the account at any point even if you get bored of gaming. Steam doesn't tell you before your purchase which games may or may not make it to 'steam'. If steam goes bust you get precisely £0 back.)

Me first -- I think doing the sums I would be somewhere round the £1500 mark. What would you pay for the ultimate coolness steam account?

PLEASE DON'T USE THIS THREAD TO STEAM-BASH -- it's just a bit of fun people!

no more than 200... :) if they would ever do there would be a lot of users actually buying those accounts... they would make a lot more money by selling them cheaper than 1.5k :O

If steam did do this then it would be a monthly subscription, I would be happy to pay around £10/month for it which I consider is similar to other services such as subscription music and dvd/game rentals through the post. People are already paying a similar amount to play MMO games such as WoW so I think it is a viable solution should Steam and the game companies decide to do it.

A lot. As poster above said, it would have to be a monthly based thing. If you really wanted a one-off fee, don't expect Steam to accept anything less than a few thousand, they can easily turn over that amount of money in a short space of time..

Monthly payment wise, I would still seriously be surprised if they went as low as £20-30, would be expecting to pay £50+ per month for something like that...

Nothing at all, just shows you've been a member for ages.

I used to have one as I played CS:S on my mates account coz he hated the game. Then I decided to actually buy my own because I wanted my own account then I got a long digit one.

Then for about 6 months people called me a haxor cos I was good with a high digit account.

But then more people arrived with high digits and I was accepted :D

If you don't understant, hackers, they cheat on an account (not blatantly), they get found out, banned, then buy a new game.

It's the main reason steam keeps their prices up abit so then they get more money and less people will cheat and get another cheap account.

Hmmmm...... this is a tricky one.
My 'gut feeling' is around £1000, but then I've already played a lot of the games that are already on Steam, so the backcatalogue, while useful, probably isn't worth all that much to me personally. To buy all the older titles that I fancy but haven't tried yet probably wouldn't cost me much more than £500 bearing in mind all the compilation packs etc. So at least half of that fee would be banking on 'future' titles making it to Steam.

As mentioned, a better business model would arguably be to charge a monthly fee. Recurring revenue is essential because it provides an incentive for Valve to put more games on there. It also gives them an income stream that wouldn't have been there if they let loads of people sign up on day 1 and then never pay a single penny for the rest of their lives. It'd make it much harder to regulate their costs too, I mean if they had say a million people with this ultimate account, everytime a new game came out, they'd have to pay a million royalties to the publisher/developer of the game, with no cash coming in.

I have a 5 digit account and my lads always trying to get it off me, he plays tournament's etc. and is off to i36 next Thursday.

I would pay about £20 per month as long as the minimum contracted time is no longer than a year.
