Steam down?

Friends list keeps going offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline then online then offline!

I would assume that not all users are housed on the same servers, as some people can work OK apparently, but others can't (like me).

Problem is probably localised to certain servers or hardware.

Maybe.

But I have two PC's in the same house on the same router and one is connected to Steam, the other isn't.

Internet and other non Steam online games working on both.

I had a weird issue with Steam earlier while playing League of Legends. A friend and I were almost at the end of a match when he suddenly started to stutter. He couldn't do anything, which resulted in our loss a few minutes later (he was our tank). Anyway, just before the match ended he realised Steam was updating Dota 2 and thought it might have been that. The match ends and I'm brought back to the client, and I notice Steam updating my Dota 2 as well. I also noticed my HDD activity was going kind of crazy. I check Task Manager and my memory usage was over 90%. So I quit Steam and my usage went all the way down to like 28% (logging back in it went to 32%). It might also be worth noting that the update hung on 98% before restarting Steam; logging back in resumed the download.

I just find it odd that the same update caused both of our PCs to go mental. Might not have anything to do with the recent spout of server issues, but it was 'interesting' to say the least.

Aye as I said, the actual accounts on the Steam servers are probably on different servers. So you can logon to one account but not another from the same router etc your end.
