Steam game problems

When I try to play an online steam game (CS, CS:S, Condition Zero, HLeath match) my latency often jumps to over 1000 when connecting trying to connect to a server on the server list. When this happens I also can't use the internet for a couple of minutes as well.

Ive posted a couple of topics on the steam forums about this and other people have the same problems but everything I try doesnt work, I hate steam they are so useless. Atm steam is probably my most hated company on this planet, I hate steam even more than that company who make Ashen Empires who stole my money even after i cancelled my subscription for my game.

Anyone on here know how to fix this, I have a Belkin ADSL Modem With Wireless G Router if that helps

Could be either firewall or router issues, make sure you've got everything opened up by Steam. It's not Steams fault, there's no such company. It'll be valve you want to hate.

Some routers go nuts when they receive too many packets too quickly, such as when you ping the server list.

Try turning off all the filters in the server browser, then refreshing the list and hit stop when it reaches around 1 thousand servers (in total, thats why you've to turn off the filters). You can then turn the filters back on and commence pwning noobs.

firewall issues, also do a apyware scan

It does sound like you've got dodgy hardware after reading your posts on Steamforums.
