Steam Games!

It says installing from disc...

If ye only getting 80kb/s on steam then theres somethign wrong :p
Mine happily pulls 1100kb+ when I was on virgin was over double that at 2600 kb

Surely if your speeds are that low more than likely to be yer BB than steam itself?
Could always try changing your source server in the steam options too.

Steam has been fantastic and ts far better than ever now imho

****ing hell! There is another problem now!

Really do not understand people's problem with Steam anymore either. Seems like people like to complain about it being a "hassle" because there isn't anything else they can think of.

He's having to install a third party service in order to play a retail game. Not the end of the world, no, but it certainly fits the definition of "hassle", doesn't it?

Not when said service looks after patching your games, friends lists, launching all games from one service and keeping your keys safe for easy reinstalls.

From Mr Tsang's posting style I strongly suspect he is doing it wrong

Rage much for no reason?
You need to calm down a bit.

Turn the router off for 2 minutes then turn it back on. See if it still says your NATs is set to strict.

OP, if you're going to turn into a petulant child and throw a fit every time you run into a slight problem then maybe PC gaming isn't for you. Thought about getting a console? ;)

God. Are you five or something?

You need an open NAT to host games because of the P2P model it uses, you should be fine to join games with a strict one.

Firstly, relax, your grammar and spelling are suffering for it.

Secondly, when i first heard of Steam when was eagerly awaiting Half-Life 2. However when you use Steam you realise its actually a great program.

As people have said and you've found out you can install from disk, but all updates are done over the cloud.

These are the reasons why I like Steam:

1: Unified location, 1 program to launch all your games, even non-steam games
2. Interface, the in game overlay is great allowing you to chat to people in other games, browse the net etc from within the game
3. Auto-update, all your games remain up to date for you
4. Backup, if you lose your CD, or CD Key, it is stored on Steam. Honestly saved me from buying about 3 games due to damaged disks
5. As mentioned before, chat facility and acheivements
6. Purchase via the cloud, you can buy a game and download it straight away, no need to wait for the stores or open or for delivery

There are many other advantages.

I appreciate your internet speed as a factor, even if installing from a disk you have to update over the internet. But your internet seems awefully slow. When I first got steam and had 512kbps broadband, downloading HL2 which was about, 5GB or so, took about 2 hours or so

As for the error you received, that may be more to do with the game rather than Steam as i've never seen anything remotely similar in any of my Steam games about the router

But i'd give Steam a chance, its honestly not a bad service at all. I hope you get your problems sorted out.

What I am not happy about it is that why not leave it as it is, there is no need to remove the UI features likeit used to be.

Battlefield still uses its old interafce a gmae browser lists all the games and leave it for the players to decide what to jonn
No need to do this ****ing matching
It matches me to players with 0 scores???
Then it says host migration fails or something
nobody knows what that is, do you know what that is
Use common simple messages so every one understands

I am a causual players i just got 2 days in a week to play and i dont spped every hour of these 2 precious days just for sorting out what goes wrong in my router!!!!

Abd by the way, is this Strict router thing has anything to do with just joining games I dont host any games.....

****!

Aaand breathe.

MW2 uses a P2P model, not client/server like the majority of games. Hence why you have to matchmake rather than use the server browser.

That's true. I broke my Battlefield 2 disc and I paid some extra money to buy another one. I appreciate that.
But the download speed is awful in this part of the world.
Having said that honestly, if I paid for a game talking about GB size I don't want to get it from Steam or whoever is doing the same. I have no patience about this, actually about everything which I pay for it.
I can understand the brilliant concept of Steam apart from the backup facilities I can agree nothing more than that.

Your telling us this as though we are the developer.

In regards to your earlier post about games only having a few activations, well you shouldn't need to activate a game more than 3 times within a 3 month period. Plus normally if you, if you call them they often are very understanding(by they i mean the publishers)

As for the quote above. I'm really not sure what your expecting from the community on here.

If you go to consoles, your router may still be a problem. Plus i've had quite a few issues with my 360 Slim recently. Looking on your profile i see you like Wii Sports. Maybe making a move onto the PC wasn't for you?

I'm honestly not sure. If I was you i'd maybe leave it, have a coffee or beer whatevers your poison, then when your ready sit down and retry again

to your previous posts about what does host migration fail mean:

Means that when moving from one host to another the connection has failed

Have you tried restarting your computer and router/modem? Just slightly off topic, but how old are you?

I have tried restarting my PC and the modem but they dont help at all

I am 28, I think what I need is the game browser like all the CoD games before. The current MP arrangement is not handy nor efficient. It tries to "Find" a game quickly for you, but what I end up with is a fail message and no game at all!
So I paid HK$320 for a game which gives me no multiplayer and needs me to sort out my hardware issue...I really don't understand wy so many people say MW2 is a good game by the look of this.
