Steam is closing down their forums

Last time I looked at those forums they were just full of horrible people with nothing of value to say. Although I definitely see this being the demise of Steam as a gaming distribution platform and Valve as a gaming developer and publisher.

[/Drama Llama hat off]

Steam forums are essential imo and I have used them on quite a few times for game support when a game purchased on steam begins to misbehave or just flatout doesn't work.

For instance I recently began to re-play GTA San Andreas. The default Steam SA is quite poor, doesn't support 1080p and the ingame controls tend to mess up a lot. Without those forums pointing me to a previous version of the .exe I would have wasted a lot of time hunting through forums.

Every forum has it's llama's but for good game support, when the developers website isn't a mash up of over used flash elements and sod all support, the forums do have their use.

I guess demise is a bit of an overstatement.

More than a bit, Steam is a digital distribution service and that's what it's famous for as well as it's gaming offers which it provides throughout the year, not it's forums.

I only time I've ever used the steam forums are when google has linked me to them for fixes to issues.

They're full of so many retards it would be too painful to try and actually post there.

I was literally going to post pretty much this. 100% agree.

In my experience, any solution will be better explained elsewhere, and any discussion will be much more productive elsewhere. You have to wade through a fair bit to get to the core of the users, who are on the whole very helpful.....it is just distinguishing them from the nutjobs that is the hard part.

I have used the forums in the past, not to post, but if I had an issue with a game, it was nice and simple to go direct to said games own thread and see if others had the same.

I only use the Steam forums to see if a game sucks or not and save me wasting money on sale games. Cities XL was a good example of this, ridiculously cheap in the recent sale but utterly slated on the forum such that even £2 was too much. If a game is particularly bad you will often find users post warnings on the game specific steam forum whenever it comes up on sale.

I use the forums to see how games are before buying them. Usually a quick look on the forums will tell me if something is a hidden gem or a buggy piece of ****. If there is any sort of problem is also a good source of information to find a fix.

One thing I have learnt about Steam forums is never listen to what they say about games being good/bad. Most of them are idiots with all the "DO NOT BUY" threads.

I echo this point, come to the decision by playing the game yourself as you'll never get the true feel of it to make a constructive decision.

diddnt know that either and i have been a steam member since hl2

When you click on your game in the library, under links on the right it says forums. This will take you to that exact game forum. Pretty handy if you get any game issues. Even though it has changed to this new thing now, not sure how to get the old pages back.

Oh ffs, if they do get rid of the forums as we know them at the moment then that sucks big time. If I ever have a problem loading/running a steam game, the first place I try is the steam forum for that game. 90% of the time the problem has already been highlighted by others experiencing the same issue with the game and a solution available.

What I liked about the Steam forums was they are particular to each game, its not all lost in one huge 'games' forum where people are talking about hundreds of different games.

For once, I actually dont like something Steam are doing.
