Steam keeps asking to add phone number.

I added my number the other day, just means that if your account is stolen your able to prove it's yours. id rather be safe then sorry given the amount of money I've spent on steam over the years

It definitely has a purpose, I had to use it when my account got compromised. They were able to link my number to the account and I got back in that way. With the amount I've spent on Steam I'm not going to be stingy about giving them my phone number.

I'm somewhat concerned that when I did add it the security code came from the same number my last Origin security code came from.

Why is that concerning? They're probably just using the same mass SMS delivery provider. It's not some guy in the Steam office sending codes out on a Nokia.
