Steam Link and Steam Controller now available to Pre Order

Just have a read of this and the past few pages, a few of us have praised the home plugs!

I have the basic ones and they are doing a great job now i have changed some settings! Just tried lords of the fallen and it could be mistaken for being played directly on the pc! Happy now! I dont think i would play online shopters with this etc but single player games will be great on it!

I have always wondered though, may be a stupid question, but does the use on network power line adapters increase your electricity costs? Past the ibvious point of the power to turn them on, does using the homes wiring to send the signal around the house cost money? I doubt it but always wondered

You can dig up the specs for your powerline adapters on the manufacturers website. The TP-Link ones I use to connect the Smart TV in the back room each use ~0.5w idle/ ~6w in use. Slightly more then a typical network switch. Nothing to worry about in terms of power consumption though.

didn't think so cool thanks! just meant interms of using the houses wiring to send all this information for streaming, wondered if that would add up as electrical usage but i guess not :D

Forgot my gf got me this years ago and i never really used it!

So just dug it out and now i can sort out link issues without returning to the pc upstairs! Such as opening games with independent launchers etc

Not had any issues with game launchers so far. Although I've opt-ed into the Steam Client beta and thats got some great fixes and enchantments.

Nice may try that! Not had many but fallout 4 has a launcher etc

Bit odd but link seems to be running worse now than earlier today? I havent changed anything!

For me far cry 4 encodes at half the bitrate of normal, then every game I run after also runs worse with half the bitrate, until I restart both the link AND the host's steam, then its fine again. So for now I just avoid far cry 4.Maybe you have a game doing similar.I always check the bitrate for the moment with the onscreen stats.

That may be the case thanks will try that!

Also i updated nvidia game experiance or whatever its called to the beta version and have now lost shadow play which means my hardware encoder has changed :/ uninstalled and reinstalled but still nothing so will try the current release again see if that helps!

I've just popped my Steam Link up on the MM after not being happy with the results. I've decided I'm going to upgrade my own PC and chuck the 2500k & GTX 970 in a nice case I can pop under the TV.

What specifically were you unhappy with?I have to admit I feel like a beta tester at the moment with it

The steam beta update lets u use the stick as a mouse if a launchers etc pops up! Just as i found another solution :D

That will help. When launching Fallout 4 from my library I have to get up to click play.

The link works well for me on FO4. Never liked FPS with a controller but will have to put up.

Quite impressed it just worked.

Can anyone with the controller tell me how many buttons can be programmed to the left touchpad, is it a max of 4?
I currently have 22 (yep that many) assigned to the left touch pad and I'm not sure I've found the maximum yet. This controller is just ridiculously versatile.

Currently have;
Double Tap
Click
Up
Down
Left
Right
Touch Menu (gives 16 key bindings)

The Touch Menu is a stroke of genius. Assign a Mode Shift button to either Touch pad. Set the Input Style to Touch Menu. Then setup your bindings.

The Touch Menu appears as an grid overlay when you hold the Mode Shift key + touch the pad. Move the cursor across the grid and then press/click the touch pad to select.

Works great for managing Hot bars in MMO's. I'm currently assigning all my non-combat keys for Planetside 2 to Touch Menu's to free up the physical buttons for combat actions. :)

To be fair fallout 4 has been designed aroubd the controller. The kb/m interface sucks on it as the u.i is designed for consoles really! Mych easier on a controller this one

Got 2 games so far I can't run acceptably, call of Juarez gunslinger is messy and unplayable, Wolfenstein new order also way too stutter to play. Can anyone who has these check if its the same on your end?

So far its good for those who like to best one game at a time, but isn't acceptable if you are the type who likes to play a lot of games at once, when loading multiple games in a row too many configs and problems arise.

So it looks like they have fixed the issue with the Link not turning off when you tell it too.

But not that I can turn it off, does anyone know how you turn it back on again?

If you have the controller it turns the link on when you turn the controller on and you turn the link off in the menu . Not sure if the link turns off if you turn the controller off

Of course if you don't have a controller then the above is not much use lol

I've been enjoying Batman: AC on my TV! Never got into it before but it's great with control pad and sitting on the sofa! :)

Need moar pick up and play games for pad! Just installed Dishonoured as well.

Dishonored is amazing.

Darksiders(1st one) and Ori and the Blind Forest are also must-play controller-friendly games, if you want more recommendations.
