Steam Link Quest App released

Experimented a bit more with this tonight. Valve don't recommend setting the encode resolution too high, so I dropped it a bit but was still getting stutters. Then I set the encode resolution to auto but left the bit-rate on 350.

This gave relatively smooth performance with a decent image quality, but I still feel Airlink is sharper, more vibrant and brighter. Steam Link was too dark.

I verified my SteamVR files and it updated a couple of files, and I also ensured Steam VR was the default openxr client. I'm now getting a bit better experience. It's not as jittery as before and looks a bit sharper, so it's actually usable now.

The latest version seems much improved - far smoother for me. There still appear to be some micro stutters but it's completely usable now and looks pretty sharp on the Quest Pro with the eye-tracked encoding.

I couldn't get the face tracking to work in VR chat though, so I couldn't test the tongue tracking. :p

Anyone else having problems with Steam Link Lately? I had no problems until the last week or so. It sometimes won't connect and needs either computer and a headset restart to fix it. This happened to Mr.Cookie as well. Not sure if he has had problems since.

Tonight it was a little glitchy but playable. But then it crashed while playing Automobilista 2. It crashed me out of the game and Steam. And it crashed my headset, the display was all messed up. I could hear the other guys in the group chat but couldn't respond. Had to restart my headset and my computer again.

Just wondering has anyone else had problems?

It's been rock solid for me since and looks far nicer image wise than airlink (at least on AMS2) i do keep getting the @Ravenger issue where the controller say they're getting too hot and I'm not even using them. :(

Steam Link works 'ok' for me, but I get far better image quality on Oculus Link.

For some reason I can't get Steam Link looking as sharp without getting stuttering.

Every time I connect using Steam Link I still have to manually set the PC's default output and input to the Steam Streaming speakers/mic..

And i've had a couple of times, where it just won't connect, but a quick restart of both steam and Oculus (no idea why the restart of Oculus was required but it defo was) and it all connects fine again. (no need to restart PC).

Once connected and the sound sorted, it's easily as good if not better than air link. This is on a Quest2.

Virtual Desktop and Air Link work fine for me for my Quest 3. Tried Steam Link and it looks ok but get constant jitter. Tried playing about with the 2 sliders. Only have 5Ghz WiFi though.
Been wondering if it’s worth upgrading to 6E but most of the time am happy with wired

I'm so bad at this.

I got my headset connected and was enjoying walking around a summit retreat, accessorising the room and stuff and figured I'd try and play half life 2.

Opened the steam menu in the headset, and located half life 2. Clicked it, got some messages about controls and stuff, then nothing.

Tried to open the game again and it said launching but nothing opens - I just end up still looking sound my mountain retreat.

I restarted the pc and changed steam vr setting so openvr default is steam, but when I opened it up I was in a dark environment with a compass on the floor. Tried to load Half life 2 again and it just won't initiate. Even virtual desktop (in steamvr)won't load but it will if I take the headset off and run half-life through normal steam.

Also for the life of me can't find how I get back to my home room?!?!

Do you mean the Half Life 2 VR mod?? i doubt half life 2 the main game will run in the headset.. but the mod is great..

I wanted to play it in the in-head-set display

Edit: Command and conquer worked ok! Something up with launching hl2 it seems
