I have both of these devices on my wired network and was quite surprised the Shield TV does a better Job streaming PC games than Steam link, set both to best visuals at 1080p and the Shield TV looks significantly better than the Steam Link with no performance loss.

Having said that I do like that you can plug in Keyboard/mouse and Xbox wireless controllers in to the Link and stream the whole of your PC (Desktop) just a shame image quality isn't better.

There both very good, I got the Steam and controller for £60 delivered when it was on offer and they're incredibly well made and work very wel. Steam link also streams the whole of your PC so you can play games that aren't on steam like Forza Horizon 3.

However for me the better image quality and all the other stuff the Shield TV does makes it better even at more than twice the price but I'm happy to keep both :)

The only issue I found with the link, is on Rust (my most played game..) Easy Anti Cheat or EAC thinks I'm hacking for some reason when I start to stream Rust to my link, rendering the game unplayable, other than that its brilliant.

Does anyone have any other games that don't work with the the link?

Regarding Steam Link as I've just purchased it...

When I tried using a Laptop as a steam link device, a lot of games wouldn't work because the resolution was messed up, especially as my PC monitor is a 1440p. How does the Steam Link device work in that regard? Does it down size all my games or do I still have to set them up via the PC first as a lower resolution?

The only issue I had was with Fallout. Single shot guns would fire twice, rapidly.
Actually, it was a bonus!
Very pleased with it otherwise, looking to get the controller in the sales :)

Steam Link I mean.

I have a 1440p monitor, and you don't have to mess with anything as the link will downscale it for you to 1080p.

I only really use it to play family type games with my mrs and son, Sonic racing, renegade ops, broforce etc. Also BO3 1v1 against my boy.

Only problems I have with it occasionaly is split second lag/hanging effect, but I put that down to less than great internet (10mb) and possibly the fact it's connected via powerline adapter, oh and that my mrs will be sitting playing some zombie bloody game on her phone at the time grrr lol

Been really happy with my Steam link once I got it set up on wired. Wireless was a dead loss though...

I couldn't get the new resident evil to work, or the new tomb raider from desktop using steam stream PC to laptop -> TV. Just blank screen with sounds, so I can't wait to try this out

Haven't used the Steam Link but have used Steam Streaming and the Nvidia Shield.

As with all of these things network speed is key but I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of game-streaming with the Shield on my AC wireless network.

Even got the Windows store games working now although they only work with an Xbox controller (Forza in the living room is nice :D )

I had a few issues with steam streaming but I blame the PC receiving and I'd imagine Steam Link is a good alternative.

How did you get Forza working?

I use a program called UWP Hook (https://brianlima.github.io/UWPHook/) to create a shortcut in Steam and then you can just stream as usual through big picture (it has a stream setting in options but I didn't need it on to work).

For Nvidia Shield users you might need to do a registry change to get audio working (I did):

For sound make sure you use the DWORD value "CoreAudioDetour" with a value of "0" in you registry under the key "HKLM\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\NvStreamSrv". If it's not there already you have to create the key. - Link

Works great so far with Forza Apex, Horizon 3 and Gears 4. It doesn't respond to the Shield controller in game though so I just an Xbox 360 controller instead.

Thanks - works a treat with the Link - only issue I now have is getting GoW4 to display in 1080p rather than my displays native 1920x1200.

Any ideas on here?

I need to mess with the games res every time I use steam link because my monitor is ultra-wide. Games have wrong FOV etc when downgraded.

In light of this I have some games (like resident evil) that I only play on my TV, and other games that I use on my PC!

Can you stream to Shield via Steam, i.e does Steam run on both the Shield and you're Pc ? Does that still work if youve an Amd card in you're pc?

I nearly bought one for its 4k Hdr tv/media streaming but thought game streaming was limited to Nvidias own software relying on an Nvidia card at the other end.

Nvidia only, the software is included in their drivers

I've had so many issues with GeForce Now, it's incredible. Everytime I want to play on my Shield TV I inevitably have to spend an hour getting it to work, even then it doesn't work for some games. When it works great, the pad is crap imo, but usable, even though my R3 has stopped working and I've only used the darn thing for 30hours Max. In 18months.

Are there no settings on the Steam link to scale to the TV's resolution?

I'm still running at 1080p on my monitor so can't really help.

Nope its annoying - I wish Valve could find a way to force 1080p - anyway short term fix is to adjust the monitor res to 1080p from 1200p
