I'm toying with the idea of building a small form factor pc with steam os just for playing on the living room tv

Anyone done this
Thinking of an amd system with a 5600x with 32gigs and a 7700xt this will be purely for gaming

Or is it just not worth the effort I don't own an Xbox or ps5

Check for apps on your smart TV, I think I had Steam link on mine at one point.. which allows game streaming. Or there's buy an Nvidia shield box, which also allows streaming from the PC. I'm sure there are simliar for the cheaper android boxes, but no idea how effective they are.

Also depends how far away your PC is, could use a really long HDMI cable and some wireless controls :)

I stream my study pc (5900X, 64Gb, 7800XT) to the lounge TV (TCL 75C845K) using Moonlight/Sunshine - TV runs the app at 4k 60hz, or via the Xbox One-S at 1440p/120hz. Over ethernet, there's minimal lag.

Another vote for steam link - works a treat. Software version works well on just about everything, but you can also get the hardware box for not a lot on certain auction sites now. I've used both and had no issues with either.

I think it's a good idea. Go for it!
I have a weak AMD APU PC under the TV, but wish it had space for a better GPU. PC gaming on the TV is absolute win, and it's good not needing to worry about lag or streaming issues.
